There is a lot of side content to undertake in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but perhaps none are as important as Regrets of the Dread Wolf, a quest you pick up during your first foray into The Crossroads early in the adventure. The first part of this quest involves you playing out some of Solas’ memories in the Fade, it’s not until you find out what you can do with the Wolf Statuettes that you will be later presented with a massive choice. Keep reading to learn how to convince an important character to aid you, or ignore it all and go to battle!

Reaching the Mythal Choice¶
You’ll have to wait quite some time before you reach the point that this choice becomes available, as you’ll first need to accept the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest, which you won’t accept until you complete the Labs Below quest during your first visit into The Crossroads. At the end of what seems to be a memory of Solas’, you’ll find a Wolf Statuette, which begins this quest.
The next step is to find the other four Wolf Statuettes and while we won’t go into it step-by-step here (check out our guide for more information), all five Statuettes can be found below:
- Complete the Labs Below quest
- Complete the Wolf’s Call quest (in the Eluvian Forest part of The Crossroads)
- Complete the Disrupt and Conquer quest (in the Heights of Athim part of The Crossroads)
- In the Crossroads: Converged City - Go through the Gate of Lost Ages door and complete the puzzle beyond it
- In the Crossroads: Elvhenan’s Haven - Accessed by going through the Gate of Faded Glories, solve the puzzle in the area beyond
Once you have the five Wolf Statuettes, you must wait until you complete the Something Wrong Main Quest, where you’ll meet someone that will give you more information on these Statuettes. You’ll need to then place them on the pedestals in The Lighthouse to reveal some lore that shatters the entire Dragon Age series, we won’t spoil it here, but you won’t want to miss it!
Following this, you’ll get an option to meet with Morrigan in the Crossroads with even more revelations, before she opens the gate that leads to where Mythal’s spirit is waiting. Your choice is coming up now, so be sure to make a hard save before you approach her!
Choice: Convince Mythal or not¶
Morrigan hints to the fact that Mythal may not be ready to assist Rook in your previous conversation, so you should know what to expect going into this conversation. The ultimate outcome of your choices here is whether you get Mythal’s assistance with or without a battle, a tough one at that! You’ll get a series of questions from Mythal that can be considered a Good, Neutral, or Bad answer and you must get at least three Good and a Neutral to convince her, any Bad will automatically end in a battle. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the conversation and your choices:
Level 1 Choice | Level 2 Choice | Alignment |
---|---|---|
We must stop the blight. | You stood against it. | Good |
People will die. | Neutral | |
The blight is your fault. | Bad | |
We must stop the gods. | We need no gods. | Bad |
They wronged you. | Good | |
Put the blight aside. | Neutral | |
We are worthy. | Killing monsters. | Neutral |
I’m trying to be like you. | Bad | |
Building a safe place. | Good | |
Solas is helping me. | Forgotten him. | Neutral |
Respected him. | Good | |
I’m sorry that happened. | Bad |
To see how these result in your ultimate outcome with this conversation, check out the table below:
Choice 1 | Choice 2 | Choice 3 | Choice 4 | Result |
---|---|---|---|---|
Good | Good | Good | – | Convinced |
Good | Good | Neutral | Good | Convinced |
Good | Good | Neutral | Neutral | Fight |
Good | Good | Bad | – | Fight |
Bad | – | – | – | Fight |
As mentioned above, to convince Mythal, you must get at least three Good outcomes or else be prepared for a tough battle!
Consequences of Convincing Mythal¶
For all intents and purposes, this is by far the “right” choice here, and the one you want to aim for if you’re looking for maximum rewards. Upon convincing Mythal, you’ll get her spirit, the unique weapon Mythal’s Light (which will change based on your chosen Class), the Clear Minds and Open Hearts Achievement/Trophy and when you fight the Blighted Dragon behind the three orb door in The Crossroads, she’ll be there to assist you. For all intents and purposes, this is the choice you want.
Consequences of Fighting Mythal¶
If you fail at convincing Mythal, or want to roleplay a Rook that really doesn’t care, you’ll get the option of fighting Mythal. Mythal’s Retribution is a Level 45 High Dragon and plays out like many of the other Dragon battles in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Despite being Level 45, we were able to take her out without any issues as a Level 31 Warrior on the Underdog difficulty.
Following her defeat, you’ll still get the desired effect of her spirit, but there will be no weapon drop or Achievement/Trophy. In return, you’ll get the usual Dragonfire Catalysts that come from defeating dragons and +300 Lords of Fortune Strength, this is by no means a trade-off worth taking and unless you’re purely roleplaying a more aggressive Rook, we strongly suggest you convince her with words, rather than swords!
