Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Neve Romance and Choices Guide

By
Ben Chard

Romance and Dragon Age goes hand-in-hand, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no stranger to it. In fact, you’ll be able to romance any character in the game regardless of your Race and Gender, which is a welcome change. Neve Gallus is one of the first Companions you’ll come across during the game’s very first main Quest, but if you want to romance her, you’ll have to put the work in. Keep reading to learn when her romance options become available and what could put a snag in it.

Any race or gender can pursue a romantic relationship with Neve Gallus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Neve’s Major Choices

When it comes to Companions and choices, Neve, along with Lucanis, get the most major choices in the game beyond committing to a relationship or not. Neve will get two major choices in the game, and you can learn about them below:

Take Neve or Harding with you during Beginning of the End

The first choice comes very early in the adventure, during the game’s prologue. As you get close to where Solas is performing the ritual, and Varric goes off to speak with him, you’ll come up with another plan to stop the ritual yourself. At this point, you have a choice of who to take with you, Neve or Harding.

For the sake of this romance, you’ll want to Take Neve with you during Beginning of the End, as she will greatly approve the decision. There is one caveat to this though, she will get injured during the events that follow and it will be visible for most of the game’s first Act. She will also be unavailable for the next main quest as she’ll stay with the Veil Jumpers to recover. Still, this is worth doing if you’re going for a Neve themed romance.

(1 of 2) Choose to take Neve with you in The Beginning of the End.

Save Treviso or Minrathous

This is another major choice, and perhaps the one that may make it more difficult to romance Neve (although not impossible unlike Lucanis). Following the conclusion of the A Man’s Best Friend main quest, dragons will attack both Minrathous and Treviso, and you must make a decision on which city you will aid. This is a permanent choice, the one you don’t choose will become blighted and the associated companion (Neve for Minrathous, Lucanis for Treviso) will become Hardened and distant for a while. For Lucanis, this means you’ll never be able to romance him but Neve can still be romanced, you’ll just need a lot more approval and to wait until she opens up again.

For the sake of Neve’s romance, make sure you choose to save Minrathous when given the choice, as it will make your life much easier. For more information on this massive choice and its consequences, check out our Save Minrathous or Treviso Choice guide.

Committing to an Exclusive Relationship with Neve

Aside from choosing the romantic options (indicated with a heart icon) in any dialogue scene with Neve, you’ll eventually get a choice to pursue a relationship.

Pursue Romantic Interest in Neve

This is non-committal at this point, so you can still flirt with others, but you must choose the correct option when given the choice or else you will be locked from it for this playthrough.

  • After completing Neve’s The Cobbled Swan Case, you’ll get a Bond Event in The Lighthouse, choose I like surprising you to continue the romance.

The Cobbled Swan Case will not become available until after you complete The Siege of Weisshaupt main quest first, at which point you begin Act II of the adventure.

(1 of 2) Choose “I like surprising you” to begin pursuing a relationship with Neve.

Exclusive Relationship with Neve

Keep selecting the romantic options and progressing Neve’s companion questline and eventually you’ll unlock the A Clear Mind quest, of which the final, crucial choice becomes available.

  • During Neve’s A Clear Mind quest, Neve will ask you some questions. When given the choice, choose “I’m here. No matter what. to lock in the romance.

Like the previous choice, this is final, if you say anything else, you’ll break off the romance and become just friends. Should you choose the right choice though, you’ll be locked into an exclusive romance with Neve, ending any other possible romances with anyone else.

Neve’s Quests

Aside from Neve’s romance, she, like all of the Veilguard, have an adventure spanning questline that involves trying to bring peace to Dock Town against the Venatori. Below, you can find all of Neve’s quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:

  • A Study of Dock Town
  • Fit for a Detective (Gift)
  • The Cobbled Swan Case
  • Chasing Leads
  • A Clear Mind
  • Keep a Light On
  • The Returned Cultist Case
  • The Local Hero

There you have it; you now know how to romance Neve Gallus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard and what the major choices affect when you reach them during the main quest. The difficulty of getting this romance will entirely depend on whether you save Minrathous or not.
