The gods may have been thwarted and their dragons defeated during Fire and Ice, but one victory, however great, doesn’t undo all the gains made by the Evanuris, nor does it restore the losses suffered by The Veilguard’s allies. The Grey Wardens in particular still have it rough, and ask for your help to repel their age-old enemies now that the dragons have been dealt with. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest Something Wicked in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Starting Something Wicked¶
Complete Fire and Ice and during the chatter at the end of the quest Antoine will ask for your help with a matter, and if you forget, it’ll come up briefly later in The Lighthouse when you’re discussing the fallout post-quest. Just fast travel to the Hossberg Wetlands and chat with Evka and Antoine to get the quest started. According to your Warden allies, a small horde of darkspawn is approaching Lavendel, and while they’ve been able to repel patrols, this is another matter. With the remaining Wardens on the line - not to mention the town of Lavendel - you’ve got to assist your allies with this darkspawn menace.
Talk to the Warden Sentries¶
First things first, time for some busywork. You need to chat with three Warden sentries who man the defenses at three routes into Lavendel, bearing horns so the limited defenders can respond to threats efficiently. There is one sentry to the south, near the Blighted Tunnel, one to the southwest near the Sheltered Glade and another to the east near the Lavendel Barricade area, overlooking the Flooded Farmlands. Meet them all, then return to Evka who is standing on the stairs leading to Grey Hold.
Defeat the Darkspawn at the Sheltered Glade¶
After this pointless check-in, you’ll need to venture southwest to reach the Sheltered Glade, where you’ll find darkspawn waiting for you. The noteworthy enemies here include two Hurlocks, two Spikers and numerous Ghouls. Cut through them and eventually reinforcements will arrive in the form of two more Hurlocks and an Emissary. The Emissary will conjure damaging blight branches (most of these attacks have an AoE on the ground to let you know to dodge) and will inflict weakness on you when you approach. Hitting the Emissary with big attacks (skills) can knock it out of its attacks or allow you to bypass the spikes it summons. Keep up the pressure and the darkspawn will fall, after which you’ll get two objectives: check on the caves to the south, or head to the farmlands.
Defeat the Darkspawn at the Flooded Farmlands¶
This is a bit of a trick - the caves to the south don’t need your help, so going there is a waste of time… not that your time really matters in this quest. If you want to just get on with this, head to the farmland to the east where you’ll find more darkspawn - Hurlocks, Blighters and Ghouls this time. Defeat the four larger darkspawn here (the Hurlocks and Blighters) and you’ll trigger another wave, but you’ve got an ace in the hole for this fight - there’s a ballista overlooking the farmlands you can commandeer if you can keep the darkspawn away, and this will allow you to take potshots at the reinforcements when they arrive. Prioritize the Blighters and with any luck you won’t have to fight conventionally again for the rest of the quest.
Ballista or no, eventually a cutscene will interrupt you. Antoine is still struggling with the anomalous calls of this novel form of blight, but it’s a battle for another day (see our walkthrough for the quest Something’s Coming), then endure more chatter to end the quest. You’ll gain 1,750 EXP, a piece of gear (our mage Rook got a Griffon Great Helm), 2x Dragonfire Catalyst, +300 gold and +300 Grey Wardens Strength.
