Reaching The Dread Wolf Rises Choices

As mentioned at the top, "The Dread Wolf Rises" iconThe Dread Wolf Rises is the final quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard so you’re about to see the culmination of all of the choices you’ve made throughout your struggle to stop the gods. This final quest has two major choices for you to make, one at the start and one at the very end, after the final boss itself. Naturally, this quest follows on from Isle of the Gods and The Last Gambit, with a few conversation based quests in between each of them.

As Rook and the team are preparing to climb the tendrils to reach the royal throne where Elgar’nan is surely waiting, you’ll get one last moment to have a final chat with your companions, while Morrigan will hand over "The Ultimate Salvation of Felassan" iconThe Ultimate Salvation of Felassan Rune if you managed to complete both The Heart of Corruption and Regrets of the Dread Wolf quests. It goes without saying, but your choices here will affect how survives the final battle.

Choice: Who Should Stay Back to Defend the Divine Manor?

You’ll need to choose who will stay behind and help defend the Divine Manor.

As Rook and his team is preparing the climb, you must make a major choice and leave one of your companions behind to help protect the rest back on the ground. Bellara or Neve (whoever you chose back in "Isle of the Gods" iconIsle of the Gods) will refuse to stay behind, since revenge is on the agenda, so that rules one person out, and of course, you already lost one person at the end of that same quest.

There are two questions you need to ask yourself here, with the first being, does this character have Hero of the Veilguard status. If they don’t, don’t leave them behind, as it’ll make it easier for them to fall during the battle. The next question is who has relevant experience in fighting on the frontlines or in a siege, naturally, this should rule out any of the Mages and Harding.

This is going to leave it down to three characters, Davrin, Taash, or Lucanis, and out of the three of them, we think Taash is the best choice to leave here. If she has Hero of the Veilguard status and the rest of your Allied Strength with the other factions are at least 2 Stars, Taash will survive the final battle. If everyone survived the previous quests, this will ensure all of your companions (except for the one that you can’t avoid at the end of Isle of the Gods) will survive and you’ll unlock the Ones That Last Achievement/Trophy.

Choice: Final Solas Encounter

After defeating the final boss, you must choose how to handle Solas.

Once you finally take down Elgar’nan and stop the gods plan once and for all, you’ll need to make a decision on how you handle the Dread Wolf, Solas, himself. This final choice in Dragon Age: The Veilguard will impact what ending Solas will have in this story, and you’ll have two-three choices that you can make here.

Let’s try this your way

If you select this choice, you will go through with the plan you concocted before beginning this quest, swapping the Lucium Daggers and tricking Solas into becoming the anchor for the Fade. This is essentially a good ending, although it may not feel like it if you’ve built a bond with Solas over the course of the game.

But I want to fight you

This choice can be a bit misleading, as you won’t manually fight Solas here, but instead, you will force him back into the Veil in a cinematic cutscene and trap him there, thus keeping it in check. This is perhaps what may be consider the bad ending, especially if you have a good relationship with him.

You don’t have to do this

You’ll get a special third choice if you have Mythal’s Essence, this is the best choice.

This final choice will only be available if you completed the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest and obtained Mythal’s Essence, regardless of whether you fought her or convinced her. It also helps (at least thematically) to have selected your Inquisition choice for Solas to Save him from himself, this is an easy to miss choice, but it creates a state where the Inquisitor cares deeply for Solas and wishes to help him. This choice is considered the best ending for Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Regardless of your choice, you’ll prevent the end of the world and get to watch the ending sequences. If you’ve successfully found the three Mysterious Circles during your playthrough, keep watching after the credits for a special ending that hints toward the future of Dragon Age!
