Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

How to Recruit Jeritza in Three Hopes

By

Information about how to recruit Jeritza in Fire Emblem Three Hopes.

In Fire Emblem Three Houses you could recruit many characters simply by getting specific stats and skills high enough. Once done, they’d be impressed enough to realize that studying under you would suit them better than petty considerations such as life-long friendships, national loyalty, familial duty or even religious conviction.

Unfortunately characters in Fire Emblem Three Hopes aren’t quite as malleable - some characters will join your faction as you progress the Main Questline, usually due to story contrivances entirely outside of your control. The rest, however, must be met in battle and “persuaded” to join you… often by lumping them on the head enough times to realize that they’d be better off defecting than decomposing.

To recruit characters in battle, you’ll need to activate a “Persuade” Strategy before the battle begins.

Character Recruitment Strategies

In the case where a character can be persuaded to join you, this “persuasion” effort is achieved via the deployment of a Strategy. When you start a battle in which a character can be recruited you’ll first have to pick from a variety of available [Strategies]. You can find more information about Strategies on their own page, but for the purposes of recruiting characters you’ll be interested in any “Persuade [Character]” Strategies, which you must select prior to the battle to ensure you can utilize said Strategy(ies) during the battle. Deploying Strategies in turn require you to expend Strategy Resources, a currency gained by completing [Side Quests] during the chapter leading up to the Main Quest where enemy characters can be recruited.

During battle, when the character you wish to recruit spawns you must activate the Strategy to persuade them by entering the battle menu before you defeat them. If you defeat them without activating the Strategy - even if you selected it before the battle - they will die and you will not be able to recruit that character for the rest of the playthrough! Once the Strategy has been activated, the area where the Strategy is in effect (usually where the target character spawned) will be surrounded by a purple glow. Merely defeat them in this area and you’ll recruit the character.

Regardless of his class affiliation in earlier Chapters, the shady figures who control the Adrestrian Empire from the shadows and the death and misery they sow are sufficiently appealing to Jeritza that he’ll join the Imperial army at the start of Chapter 4. If the Death Knight is on your side, you’re probably not the good guys…

How to Recruit Jeritza in the Azure Gleam Route

The Blue Lions won’t get a chance to win Jeritza to their side until Chapter 13’s Main Quest battle, [Showdown at Ailell: Azure Gleam]. Needless to say, this is quite late in the main questline, and you probably will already have other characters filling the role of cavalry. Jeritza does, however, have the unique Death Knight class (replacing Dark Knight), for the three whole battles you can use him in.

Not only is Jeritza late, but he’s one of the more complicated characters to recruit, only surpassed by Byleth. First, you must enable the Persuade the Death Knight Strategy before the battle begins, but as an additional component you must include Mercedes in your army. She doesn’t need to take up a primary slot, but having her as one of your four playable characters can’t hurt.

Once the battle begins, play through like norma - you’ll need to start out by seizing four Stronghold near your main base in the northeastern corner of the map (Boulder-Lined Path, Crater, Barren Rockscape, Seething Lava Path), after which an Imperial general named Ladislava will appear in another Stronghold (Flamespout Field). Defeat her and the numerous Wyvern Lords near her after which you’ll be distracted by the Side Mission “Defeat the Dark Bishops and aid the Church Soldiers!”. You don’t need to bother with this, but if you’re quick and split up your forces you can probably route the three Dark Bishops who you’ll find attacking some Church Soldiers (Bishops).

(1 of 4) Once trapped, the Death Knight will be bombarded with resonant magic, weakening him.

Shortly after the aforementioned Side Mission begins, the Death Knight will appear in the northeastern corner of the map, and a conspiracy to trap him will be hatched. It’s pretty much the same as in [Chapter 6: Assault on Arundel Territory] - lure him to the middle of the map, trap him, bombard him, then defeat him. This time, however, the only bait he’ll accept is Mercedes. Command Mercedes via the Battle Map to attack the Death Knight. Once she’s nearby you’ll get the update that “The Death Knight set their sights on Mercedes!”, indicating that he’s taken the bait. Command Mercedes to venture to the marked spot in the middle of the map and the Death Knight should follow, provided nobody intervenes. Stay out of sight and let Mercedes lure the Death Knight and once he’s there Claude’s trap will spring closed.

Once lured to the middle of the map, the Death Knight will be hit with Resonant Magic, after which the nearby allied Strongholds will open their gates. Activate the “Persuade Death Knight” Strategy and defeat the Death Knight in combat - he’s still no slouch, but he’s beatable. Use axe-wielding units to ensure you have advantage. Upon tasting defeat, Mercedes will talk some sense into the Death Knight, who will join your forces.
