Black Myth: Wukong

Unlocking Secret Area: Purple Cloud Mountain - Venom Daoist Locations

By
Ben Chard

Black Myth: Wukong is a massive game, littered with secrets everywhere you look, and in each Chapter, there is a secret area for you to find. Usually, this involves going off the beaten path to complete an optional quest to gain access, and the rewards are usually such that help you defeat the final boss of that Chapter. Purple Cloud Mountain is the secret area for Chapter 4, and you can find all of the steps for unlocking it on this very page!

Purple Cloud Mountain is the secret area of Chapter 4 in Black Myth: Wukong.

Venom Daoist Webbed Hollow Location

Unlike the secret areas in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, there is no elaborate quest for you to complete in order to unlock Chapter 4’s secret area. Instead, you’ll need to fight two optional bosses, after which the entrance to Purple Cloud Mountain, the secret area, will reveal itself.

The enemy you’re looking for is the "Venom Daoist" iconVenom Daoist, and you’ll find him in two different locations throughout Chapter 4 and must beat him each time. The first time you can find the Venom Daoist is during your expedition in the Webbed Hollow, a sprawling cavern that you’ll traverse from top to bottom. You will have to explore off the beaten path to find the Venom Daoist in the Webbed Hollow, however.

(1 of 6) Start at the Upper Hollow Shrine and go up the stairs to the left when facing it to find this brazier.

You’ll need to reach the Pool of Shattered Jade Shrine, which is one of the more hidden Shrines within the Hollow. To begin with, start at the Upper Hollow Shrine and while facing it, head up the stairs to your left and over to the back. Keep walking forward and you’ll see a brazier on a wooden platform, head on over and you can drop down to the area below.

Once at the bottom, follow the path forward, beyond the hanging spider sacs and you’ll eventually reach an area that takes you back up and eventually to the Pool of Shattered Jade Shrine. From here, while facing the Shrine, take the path up to the right and you’ll find a giant Cocoon that you can attack which starts a battle against the Odd Cocoon who, after a few hits, will have the Venom Daoist appear from.

Venom Daoist Temple of Yellow Flowers Location

After you defeat the Venom Daoist in the Webbed Hollow, he’ll retreat with a promise of getting stronger. You’ll have to wait until you reach the final part of the Chapter and the Temple of Yellow Flowers until you can have your rematch and unlock the secret area.

Proceed through the area until you reach the final Shrine, Court of Illumination and instead of continuing forward, turn around and instead of going right at the fork, keep heading forward and follow the path to another split. Heading right takes you up to an optional battle against the "Fungiwoman" iconFungiwoman and the "Sunset of the Nine Skies" iconSunset of the Nine Skies Drink, while left has a slope you can slide down to a cavern.

Slide down this slope and, if you’ve already beat him back at the Webbed Hollow, the Venom Daoist will appear once more for his rematch. This is much tougher than your first bout with him, and he has two phases for you to deal with. The first phase is the exact same battle at the Webbed Hollow, so try to conserve your resources for phase two. For this phase, he will shed his extra arms and is far more agile, be sure to prioritize dodging his attacks before you go on the attack.

(1 of 4) Go away from the Court of Illumination Shrine and keep going forward.

At this stage of the game, if you have a fully upgraded "A Pluck of Many" iconA Pluck of Many, look for a gap to spawn them, then use "Immobilize" iconImmobilize to freeze the Venom Daoist and strengthen your clones. With a Transformation in your back pocket too, this should be more than enough to take down this fierce foe.

A scene will follow your victory against the Venom Daoist, who gives you a warning before revealing the location to Purple Cloud Mountain, Chapter 3’s secret area. Simply head over to the mural that he pointed towards and interact with it to find a passageway to this hidden area where two more optional, difficult, encounters await!
