There are many hidden quests to seek out in Black Myth: Wukong, and the Loong Scales Quest is perhaps one of the easiest to miss. This Quest will pit you against optional Loong (Dragon) battles that offer some fantastic rewards. Keep reading to learn where you can find this important item and where to use it to unlock these battles.
Obtaining the Loong Scales will allow you to take on four optional battles in Black Myth: Wukong.
Getting the Loong Scales and Going Through Waterfalls¶
The first step on this quest, and perhaps the trickiest as it’s very easy to miss, is getting the Loong Scales themselves, needed to reach these hidden areas. As you proceed through Chapter 2, you’ll reach the Valley of Despair Shrine in Sandgate Village, just after you defeat the King of Flowing Sands and his Son.
There are two routes you can take here, and the one you want is to the left that will take you into a cave. After a short scene, you’ll be introduced to The First Prince of the Flowing Sands at the bottom of the cave. Where he is situated is where you need to go, so you’re going to have to deal with this threat first. Fortunately, despite his imposing nature, the First Prince is a simple battle as his attacks give you plenty of time to dodge and you can corner him easily.
(1 of 2) Head to where you defeated the First Prince of the Flowing Sands.
Head to where you defeated the First Prince of the Flowing Sands. (left), Face the wall on the left and use the Wandering Wight Spirit to crack it. (right)
Once the battle is over, look to the wall on the left, you’ll need to break a part of this wall in the center. The problem is, you’ll need to deliver a strong impact to crack it, something your Staff will struggle with. There is a possibility that the First Prince himself may have done the damage if you were fighting on that side of the wall. If he didn’t, your best way of doing this is by getting the Wandering Wight Spirit from Chapter 1 and using that at the center of the wall (use a Shrine to replenish your Qi if needed).
Once the crack is there, examine it and pass through to the other side. A lone chest awaits you here along with some lore that you’ll hear as you approach the mural. When you’re ready, loot the chest for the Loong Scales Key Item. What does this item actually do though? With this in your possession, you’ll be able to go through the waterfalls in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.
Loong Boss Locations¶
There are four optional bosses to encounter now that you have your Loong Scales, and the table below will tell you where you can find them and what rewards you can expect from the battle.

Red Loong¶
The first of these Loongs can be found by returning to Black Wind Mountain (Chapter 1) and going to the Forest of Wolves - Outside the Forest Shrine. From here, take the path to the left at the first fork and you should see the waterfall in the distance. Follow the path to the waterfall, deal with any enemies in the vicinity and you’ll then be able to interact with the waterfall that takes you to the Red Loong’s dwelling and subsequent boss encounter.
Upon defeat, you’ll not only get the materials it drops, but can open the nearby chest to get the Thunder Tail and
Boshan Censer, a Curio that grants considerable Damage Reduction when gourd use is depleted.

Black Loong¶
Once the Red Loong is down, head to the Fright Cliff - Rockrest Flat Shrine in the Yellow Wind Ridge area (Chapter 2). Simply go up the stairs to the right of this Shrine and you’ll find a sand waterfall, the location of the Black Loong’s lair.
Upon defeat, you’ll get the Thunderbone material needed for weapon crafting along with the incredibly useful
Tridacna Pendant. This Curio will slightly reduce the cooldown of your Spells, very useful as the Spells are often your most important tools.

Cyan Loong¶
With two Loongs down, you’ll have to progress to Chapter 3 to find the next. Head to the Bitter Lake - Turtle Island Shrine and turn around to face the cliff and walk towards it before heading left. What was once a statue of a Loong will now reanimate, and a fierce battle will begin.
Upon defeat, you’ll get two Fine Gold Threads (this is the earliest you can get these Legendary materials), a
Mind Core, and another
Loong Pearl. Open the chest that spawned and you’ll also get the
Mountain-Shaking Claw material and the
Breath of Fire Soak, this material can be used to make a Mythical weapon a bit later in the journey!
(1 of 2) Turn away from the Turtle Island Shrine and head to the cliff’s edge to find the Cyan Loong.

Yellow Loong¶
We’re still on the lookout for the Yellow Loong, but we do know that it requires beating all other three Loongs and reaching Chapter 4. Check back later for more details on this Loong.
