Black Myth: Wukong is a massive game full of secrets everywhere you look. In each Chapter, there’s a Secret Area to find that usually leads to you obtaining tools for making the final boss of a Chapter easier. Despite Chapter 5 being more linear than those that came before, there is a Secret Area to be found here, but you’ll need to take care of the Five Element Carts to reach it. Keep reading to learn where you can find them and reach Bishui Cave.

Pale-Axe Stalwart and the Brown-Iron Cart¶
As mentioned above, while Chapter 5 is far more linear than the previous Chapters, some of the Carts will require you to go off the beaten path. Fortunately, the start of this quest is unmissable, as you’ll run into the Pale-Axe Stalwart as you head through the start of the area. Use him to take down the rest of the nearby enemies and then bring him down to low HP to end the battle.
Speak to him once you can and you’ll learn about the Five Element Carts that he’s seeking to destroy. Exhaust the dialogue, and then go up the path behind him to run into the first of these Carts, the Brown-Iron Cart. You won’t have much in the way of places to hide during this battle, as it blocks the thing passageway up. Instead, get in close, use A Pluck of Many, and attack it from the side, remembering to dodge whenever it goes to slam down.
Gray-Bronze Cart¶
You’ll need to press on for a bit before you find the Gray-Bronze Cart, once you’ve reached the Height of Ember Shrine. As you head forward from there, you’ll fight the Father of Stones and then have a choice of paths you can take. Open the door to your right and start heading down to the path, although both routes lead to the same place, for the sake of the Cart, you can drop off to your left (just remember to heal!).
Once again, this is another Cart that blocks a thin passageway, and for the most part, the same tactics as the Brown-Iron Cart reign supreme. If you look carefully, there is one safe spot you can use to avoid most of its attacks and once again, letting A Pluck of Many do most of the work for you will put this Cart out of commission. If you’ve not already done so at this point, go back to the Pale-Axe Stalwart and keep speaking to him until he moves on (you can see where an NPC is on the Shrine menu).
The Horse Guai Cart¶
The next Cart is unlike all of the others, it’s already been defeated, so you only need to simply find it and interact with it. This is directly tied to the Horse Guai Quest and will invalidate it if you interact with it before doing the other steps, so make sure that’s covered first.
To find it, continue until you reach the Furnace Valley area of Chapter 5, and the Valley Entrance Shrine. Follow the path forward for a while and eventually you’ll reach some lava before it slopes back up. Ignore the path forward and instead go into the lava to your right (equip the Fireproof Mantle from defeating Elder Jinchi in Chapter 1!) to find the defeated Cart. When speaking to it, you’ll hear a familiar voice, but he wants to be left alone and won’t let you pull the whip for now.
Crimson-Silver Cart¶
Following the defeat of the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains, you’ll gain access to the Emerald Hall Shrine. Keep going forward on the main path and you’ll run into the Crimson-Silver Cart along with the Pale-Axe Stalwart should he have already moved to this location (if not, go back and do so now). Despite having more room to move around, this Cart is still a relative pushover and with your new companion aiding you, shouldn’t take a while. As is ever true with the majority of these Carts, a fully upgraded A Pluck of Many will make short work of it.
Once you’ve taken care of business, speak to the Pale-Axe Stalwart once more and exhaust his dialogue to move on to the next step of this quest. If you’re working on the Horse Guai Quest, this is also the time to head back to his Cart near the Valley Entrance Shrine, you’ll now be able to remove the whip and gain the Dark Thunder Transformation.
Rusty-Gold Cart¶
The final Cart is not only the most dangerous of the bunch, but also the only truly optional encounter, and as such, it’s easily missable if you don’t know where to look. To begin with, you’ll need to press on with the Chapter until you reach the Field of Fire - Ashen Pass III Shrine.
Just beyond there, you’ll encounter a massive rolling ball that moves back and forth, with the goal being to make your way up the mountain. If you look carefully, you’ll spot areas to the side where you can wait it out, just remember to defeat any enemies occupying the space first. Eventually, you’ll reach the end where you’ll trigger a scene, and Zhu Bajie will deal with it as the flames are removed in the area.
Instead of continuing forward by following the fox, instead return the way you came and keep to the left, you’ll reach a new area that wasn’t accessible before. As you make your way down this slope, you can run into optional encounters against the Flint Vanguard and the Mother of Flamlings (if you have four Flame Ores on hand to spawn her). At the bottom of the slope, you’ll find the Cooling Slope Shrine, so prepare yourself and rest up, the final Cart awaits at the bottom.
Unlike the other four, this is a true boss encounter, and far more difficult than any of the others, as shown by the huge area you have to fight it in. The main attacks to watch out for are when it does its Flame Spray, back away and keep your distance as this can not only deal heavy damage, but Burn you. The Fireproof Mantle will be incredibly handy here if you have it. You’ll also need to watch out for its Grab, if it catches you, you’ll get caught in a flurry of attacks that will deal significant damage to you.
Aside from this, keep to the sides to avoid the majority of the attacks, make use of spells such as A Pluck of Many and Immobilize, along with using your Transformation to put a dent into it. Following the battle, speak with the Pale-Axe Servant one final time before heading over to the ice gate in front of you. Once the ice is broken, head forward to trigger a scene in the center of the cave that will whisk you off to the Secret Area, Bishui Cave!
