Black Myth: Wukong is an Action RPG but it has some similarities to a soulslike, such as having a unique way to heal yourself in battle. The Gourd is this games version of the Estus Flask from “Elden Ring”. On this page, we’ll provide you with the necessary steps to upgrading your Gourd.
Shen Monkey is your best friend when it comes to all things Gourd.
How to Upgrade The Gourd¶
A lot of the battles during the stages of the game will be tricky because you’ll not only have low defense on your equipment, but the healing potency of the Gourd won’t be overly great and you won’t have many uses. However, you can improve both of these by visiting an NPC named Shen Monkey and he can be found by following the path along from the Marsh of White Mist Shrine and you’ll reach this towards the end of chapter 1.
Once you’ve tracked down the Shen Monkey you can increase the amount of gourd uses by upgrading it via Luojia Fragment Vines or you can improve the healing potency with Awaken Wine Worms. These are scattered around the world, but they are well hidden so you’ll want to make sure you explore every knock and cranny to reduce the chance of you missing them.

Drink and Soak System¶
Select the Brew Tab then you can further improve the gourd by changing the currently equipped drink or you can add additional bonuses to your gourd via the soaks, such as “Goat Skull” which moderately increases your maximum health for a short duration. These items can be found while exploring/defeating enemies or you can purchase some from the Shen Monkey himself. If you obtain a decent soak or drink on your travels, then you can add it to your gourd without visiting Shen, as the brew option will be added to any of the shrines.
