Xu Dog's Medicine Making Quest

By
Matt Chard

Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong is much bigger than the previous chapter and has several quests for you to complete. One of the first quests you’ll find in the barren wasteland is the Medicine Making quest from Xu’Dog at Sandgate Village. Read on to find out where you can find him, what you need to progress the quest, and what reward you’ll get for completing it.

Xu Dog is a character in Black Myth: Wukong. You’ll meet him in Chapter 2.

Starting the Quest - Xu Dog Location

When you get to the Yellow Wind Ridge for the first time, head left to find the Sandgate Village, Village Entrance Shrine. From the Shrine, head forward and drop into the gap near the wooden bridge. Follow the gap into the cave to the right where you’ll find Xu Dog. Speak to him, and he’ll tell you that one of his formulas was eaten by a frog, and he’ll ask you to help him retrieve it.

(1 of 2) From the Village Entrance Shrine, drop into the gap and head into the cave to your right.

Obtaining the Formula - Defeating Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw

Nearby where you speak to Xu Dog (just past him) is a pool of water with the petty frog he was speaking about. Before you head down into the water to fight the boss, stock up on some Shock-Quelling Powder due to the boss tending to unleash lightning attacks at you repeatedly, and considering this battle is in water, you could imagine how the fight will go down. For the most part, this boss has the same regular attacks as the Frog boss in Chapter 1 such as the backward hop-kick or tongue-swipe.

However, the boss has a few lightning-based attacks, which make it a bit more difficult. The hardest attack to avoid is the barrage of lighting wisps that will continuously come at your direction. This can be avoided by getting some distance, and dodging just as one is about to hit you. Now, keep pressing dodge to keep perfect dodging them. Another dangerous attack it has is its lightning storm attack where it’ll call down bolts of lighting around the arena, especially around the boss.

(1 of 3) Head outside near Xu Dog to find the frog in the water below.

Once again, get some distance, and keep moving around/dodging to avoid the attacks. Although the battle may take a few attempts, it isn’t too difficult, simply attack it with your light attack combo, and if you see any lightning attacks, get some range, and be ready to avoid any incoming attack. Only use your heavy attack (focus spender) when you’ve immobilized or stunned the boss, or you’ll take avoidable damage. With Lang-Li defeated, head back to Xu Dog and tell him the good news. Exhaust his dialogue, and he’ll disappear after your next rest at a Shrine.

Finishing the Quest - Crouching Tiger Temple: Cellar

With the first step completed of the quest, you will see Xu Dog again once you reach the last Shrine in Chapter 2. This Shrine is located in the Crouching Tiger Temple with the Shrine being called Cellar. You can only reach this area after defeating the Stone Vanguard Boss in Fright Cliff, by the Rockrest Flat Shrine, as this will give you the Sterness of Stone Key Item. Once you have the key item, you must head to the Crouching Tiger Temple. Follow our Crouching Tiger Temple Location guide to find it.

At the temple, you’ll need to defeat another boss at the top, and this one is arguably the most difficult boss you’ve fought so far. After defeating the boss, head to the pedestal above the arena and place the key item in it to drain the blood and reveal a hidden cellar entrance. Make your way through the cellar, defeating the enemies along the way, and before long, you’ll reach the Cellar Shrine. Here, you’ll have two paths, left, which leads to the last boss of the chapter or right, which takes you to Xu Dog.

(1 of 4) At the Cellar Shrine, head to the right to find Xu Dog.

Take the right path, and at the end of the room, speak to Xu Dog, who allows you to craft Celestial Pills at his furnace. These potent pills will permanently increase your chosen attribute (health, defense, mana, etc.) for the cost of some Mind Cores. Speak to him again to bring up the menu, select “Talk”, and he’ll give you one of these Mind Cores as a reward, although the real reward is the ability to craft these miracle pills. This concludes Xu Dog’s quest.
