Black Myth: Wukong

All Gourd Locations

By
Matt Chard

Gourds in Black Myth: Wukong are your healing source in the game, much like the Estus Flask in the Dark Souls series. Unlike the Dark Souls series, there are over 10 Gourds to collect, all of which have additional benefits. However, you’ll need to explore every nook and cranny to find each of them. Read on to find out how you can obtain every Gourd in the game, where you can find them, and what each one offers you.

Shen Monkey (NPC) is the person you want to speak to when you want to purchase or upgrade Gourds.

What are Gourds in Wukong?

As mentioned above, Gourds are your healing source for whenever you take damage. Activated by pressing R-Key, DualSense-L1, Xbox-BumperLeft, Wukong will take a sip of his Gourd, replenishing his health. The amount of times you can use this depends on various factors such as what Gourd you have equipped and how much you’ve upgraded them. Gourds can be upgraded by speaking to "Shen Monkey" iconShen Monkey near the Marsh of White Mist Shrine in Bamboo Village once you’ve unlocked his services in Chapter 2.

Once you’ve unlocked him, you’ll need to find either Luoija Fragments (increases the number of uses) or "Awaken Wine Worm" iconAwaken Wine Worms (increases potency) to enhance the Gourd. Check out our Luoija Fragment Vines Locations Guide or Awaken Wine Worm Locations Guide for more information. Furthermore, you can enhance the Gourd further with the addition of Drinks and Soaks. Read our Drinks and Soaks Locations Guide for every location of them.

Below you’ll find every Gourd separated by what Chapter you can find them in.

Chapter 1 Gourds

Trailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd

When the gourd is full, the first sip replenishes to full Health 5

This Gourd can be obtained by purchasing the Deluxe Editions of Black Myth: Wukong. Once you have it purchased, head to the nearest Shrine to retrieve it. We’re not sure if this is obtainable outside of having the Deluxe Edition, but if it is, we haven’t found it yet.

You’ll get this Gourd as a bonus from the Deluxe Edition of the game.

Old Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
No special effect 5

This is the default, starting Gourd that is in your inventory. This can be upgraded five times, each changing the name of the Gourd with every upgrade. These are the "Medicine Gourd" iconMedicine Gourd, "Healing Gourd" iconHealing Gourd, "Medicine Sage Gourd" iconMedicine Sage Gourd, "Medicine Master Gourd" iconMedicine Master Gourd, and "Supreme Gourd" iconSupreme Gourd (this is upgraded in Chapter 6). Each time you upgrade this Gourd, it will gain another healing use, with it getting 10 healing uses when it becomes the Supreme Gourd.

The Old Gourd is the default Gourd in the game. Each time you upgrade it, it will get another name.

Chapter 2 Gourds

Plaguebane Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
Health recovery is halved, but Attack is increased for a short duration after using the gourd 5

This is a more offensive Gourd due to it increasing your attack after taking a sip. To offset this, it’ll reduce how much it heals by half. Obtaining this Gourd requires a bit of work, so follow the steps below to obtain it.

  • 1: Defeat the Tiger Acolyte boss at the bridge after Windrest Hamlet in Yellow Wind Formation to obtain the Old-Rattle Drum Key Item.

  • 2: Dispel the gray mist near the Windseal Gate Shrine in Yellow Wind Formation.

  • 3: Dispel the gray mist in the village before the Windrest Hamlet Shrine.

  • 4: Dispel the gray mist near the Village Entrance Shrine near the "Earth Wolf" iconEarth Wolf boss.

  • 5: Defeat the "Mad Tiger" iconMad Tiger Boss at the bottom of the well and open the chest at the back of the arena.

The Plaguebane Gourd can be found in the wooden chest after completing The Rattle Drum Quest.

Chapter 3 Gourds

Fiery Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
Using the gourd grants Chill immunity and increases Maximum Stamina for a short duration 7

You’ll find this Gourd not too far from the Mindfulness Cliff Shrine in the Valley of Ecstasy. The Gourd itself is in a wooden chest, which can be found by walking forward a little until you reach some wooden boards. Once you’ve reached them, drop off to the right, and follow the path, which leads to the chest.

Chapter 4 Gourds

Xiang River Goddess Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
Using the gourd grants immunity to Scorch Damage from lava-covered terrain for a short duration 8

Progress through the Chapter until you reach The Verdure Bridge Shrine in the Webbed Hollow. Once you’ve reached the Shrine, follow the left path until you get a cutscene. Here, you’ll find a room with five Golden Chests, yes, five. The Gourd will be in one of the chests.

Stained Jade Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
Massively increases drinking speed 7

This Gourd is your reward for defeating "The Scorpionlord" iconThe Scorpionlord boss who can be found in the Secret Area: Purple Cloud Mountain. Progress through the area until you reach the Bounds of Deity’s Abode Shrine, and then head right from the Shrine where you’ll find a Scorpion on the rooftop, drinking. You can approach and talk to him, but to start the boss fight, you’ll need to destroy the nearby kegs. This will naturally make him angry, and a boss fight will ensue. Defeat the boss and the Gourd is yours.

Chapter 5 Gourds

Immortal Blessing Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
Health recovery is halved, but Attack is increased for a short duration after using the gourd 8

This is another purchasable Gourd from Shen Monkey (Marsh of White Mist Shrine in Bamboo Grove), but unlike the other purchasable Gourds, you’ll need a couple of Key Items, "Buddha's Left Hand" iconBuddha’s Left Hand, and "Buddha's Right Hand" iconBuddha’s Right Hand. You may already have these as they can be obtained during Chapter 4, but if you haven’t, here is where you get them.

  • Buddha’s Left Hand: You’ll find this a drop from the "Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw" iconBaw-Li-Guhh-Baw boss, who can be found near the Lower Hollow Shrine in the Webbed Hollow. From the Shrine, enter the tunnel to the left and if you look closely at the left wall, you’ll find a small crack you can squeeze through that leads to a Meditation Spot. In this room, go through the left corridor to find the boss.

  • Buddha’s Right Hand: This is dropped from the main boss near the Cliff of Oblivion Shrine in the Webbed Hollow. After you interact with this Shrine, you can find a glowing hand to interact within the following corridor.

Supreme Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
10

To obtain this Gourd, your "Old Gourd" iconOld Gourd must be upgraded to the fullest (9 Heal Uses). Once you’ve upgraded this, head to the Rakshasa Palace Shrine in Furnace Valley. From the Shrine, head over the nearby bridge and take the path on the left, leading to a room with an old man you can talk to. Like all NPCs, exhaust his dialogue, and then interact with the fire in the center of the room. This allows you to upgrade your Gourd to the Supreme Gourd, which is the highest rarity in the game (Mythical). You can only do this if your Old Gourd has been upgraded first.

Chapter 6 Gourds

Multi-Glazed Gourd

Effects Heal Uses
The last sip from the gourd significantly increases Attack for a short duration 6

Upon reaching Chapter 6, head over to Shen Monkey at the Marsh of White Mist in Bamboo Grove to purchase the Gourd.
