Treasure Hunter Location

You’ll have to proceed through Chapter 3 until you reach Bitter Lake - North Shrine of the Bitter Lake and you’ll find yourself in an open area with many ways to go. Heading right will lead you to an optional battle against the "Apramāṇa Bat" iconApramāṇa Bat, while going forward will let you press on with your journey. The way you want to go, however, is by heading left from the Shrine and beyond the optional battle against "Chen Loong" iconChen Loong to reach the temple grounds.

Once there, you’ll hear a man calling out for help as he’s been cornered by three "Cyan Bat" iconCyan Bats. Rush in and take them out, perhaps using "A Pluck of Many" iconA Pluck of Many to give you a bit of an advantage against them. Once the area is free from any threats, speak to the man to learn he’s a Treasure Hunter, and after exhausting all of his dialogue options, leaving you with more cryptic clues.

(1 of 2) Head left from the North Shrine of Bitter Lake to find the Treasure Hunter under attack.

Finding Fire in the Forest of Felicity

Continue onward with the main quest in Chapter 3 and you’ll eventually reach the Forest of Felicity in the Valley of Ecstasy. This is one of the largest areas of the New West, with many open ways to explore, but for the sake of this quest, you’re looking to reach the Towers of Karma Shrine. To find it, take the left path down from the first bridge and keep going forward in the open area to eventually find it.

Just before the Shrine, however, you’ll once again run into the Treasure Hunter, this time desperately seeking a source of fire to warm himself. You may be fooled into thinking you need to go and fetch an item, but in fact, you have the very thing he needs on you already. If you don’t already have it set, go to the nearby Shrine and set the Ring of Fire Spell, then return to the Treasure Hunter and cast it near him to trigger a scene. Once again, you’ll need to exhaust his dialogue options, and this time he will give you a hint as to where you may be able to find this Melon Field.

(1 of 3) Cast Ring of Fire when the Treasure Hunter mentions he’s freezing.

Finding the Melon Field

Your next task, then, is to locate this melon field that the Treasure Hunter gave you some hints about. The easiest way to find this is by heading to the Brook of Bliss Shrine (reached by going right and around from the Forest of Felicity), going across the bridge, and down into the water below. Follow the stream to the end (the other way leads to a dead end) and you’ll see a broken bell on the ground, with two enemies at the edge of the cliff.

Dispatch them and then look carefully over the edge, you’ll spot a path you can drop down to. Head down, across the fallen tree, and down to the bottom to reach the Melon Field Shrine. Despite there being no Melon Field actually here, if you look to your right, you’ll see a large Buddha statue and as you approach it, you’ll trigger a scene and a boss.

Defeating the Green-Capped Martialist

The Green-Capped Martialist will attack you at the Melon Field.

It seems you’ve been tricked and lured to this location by the so-called “Treasure Hunter”, who goes by the name of "Green-Capped Martialist" iconGreen-Capped Martialist. This tricky foe has a ring of fire for a weapon and will waste no time using it against you, be sure to keep locked on at all times so that you don’t lose track of him.

Usually, from the start, he’ll shoot a beam of fire at you that will deal continuous damage should you get caught up in it, simply dodge to the side to avoid it and leave him open for a moment. As with most enemies in the game, you can deal heavy Smash damage to them and knock them to the ground, so if you’re using a Spirit such as the "Wandering Wight" iconWandering Wight, now is a good time to get in there and use it.

(1 of 3) Dodge to the side of the beam to leave him wide open.

The Green-Capped Martialist’s combos consist of him tossing his rings at you and then chaining them together, if you’re at least at mid-range, these are very simple to avoid. Once you deal enough damage to him, he’ll toss his ring and vanish, leaving his ring to spin around the arena leaving a trail of fire in its wake. You can’t deal damage here, so instead focus on keeping track of it and dodge rolling out of the way whenever it approaches you. Later in the battle, he’ll produce a second ring, making this attack much tougher to avoid.

The easiest attack to be caught by is his Parry, which he’ll use when you’re at close range and using a series of Light Attacks against him. If he blocks your attack, get away from him as he’ll soon follow it up with a swift kick that will deal moderate damage. The Green-Capped Martialist is also adept at seeing through your illusions, so Spells like "Immobilize" iconImmobilize won’t be of much use here.

The Treasure Hunter Quest Rewards

You’ll get the Spell Binder spell for completing the Treasure Hunter quest.

Once you defeat him, the Green-Capped Martialist will retreat, and you’ll once again run into the young monk you’ve been dealing with throughout this Chapter. At a moment’s notice, the area will be transformed into a Melon Field, and as a reward, you’ll be taught the "Spell Binder" iconSpell Binder Spell. This is an interesting spell that prevents the use of any spellcasting, be it Spells, Transformations, or Spirits. In return, you’ll get a massive boost in Attack, making this a great spell to use against foes who are resistant to magic.
