Rice Cocoons Locations

You can do these steps in any order, but consider hunting down all three Rice Cocoons first (this is how many you will need) as it will save you having to backtrack later to complete this hidden quest. Proceed through the early stages of the Chapter until you defeat "The Second Sister" iconThe Second Sister, drop down into the hole behind her, and find yourself in the Webbed Hollow, the main location for this Chapter.

The first thing you may notice is the abundance of Cocoons all over the place, and if you strike them, they’ll easily break, often granting some "Will" iconWill. More importantly, some of these Cocoons have a chance to drop Rice Cocoons, the key item in question that you’re on the search for.

Unfortunately, we can’t give you the exact location of these, as they have a chance to drop from any Cocoon that you break. Instead, look for areas that have a high density of Cocoon as you’re more than certain to find a drop in one of those locations. As a rule, we’ve not found two Cocoons right next to each other, but we’d still encourage you to break every instance of Cocoon you come across (they also respawn over time, without you needing to use a Shrine). If you want some suggestions for where to find lots of Cocoons, check the following locations:

  • From the Upper Hollow Shrine, go left and up the stairs, then follow the path around the back of the house, this will eventually lead to a large area full of Cocoons

Go up the stairs to the left of the Upper Hollow Shrine and follow it around to find a large group of Cocoons to smash.

  • Facing the same Shrine, go up the stairs to the left of them and follow it around to an opening where you can find some more Cocoons. Continue on behind there (don’t drop down), and you’ll find an even larger area with more Cocoons.

With these three locations, you should find the three Rice Cocoons you’re seeking and be able to proceed to the next step of this Quest.

Getting the Proto-Amourworm

You’ll need to press on after this, as you’ll now need to get your hands on the "Proto-Amourworm" iconProto-Amourworm and you’ll need to defeat the "Elder Amourworm" iconElder Amourworm. You can reach this boss by continuing through the Upper Hollow area until you reach the Verdure Bridge Shrine. Cross the bridge nearby and after heading left, you’ll trigger a short scene. Once you regain control, head through to the right to loot some chests and then just beyond, you’ll find the Proto-Armourworm!

Be sure to have some protection against Poison before battling this foe, and then make use of spells such as a fully upgraded "A Pluck of Many" iconA Pluck of Many to prevent the boss from having a chance. Any Spirits that can stagger, such as the "Wandering Wight" iconWandering Wight, is also potent here. This is hardly a boss, and should you come in with the tools above (respec if you need to for A Pluck of Many), it shouldn’t take long to defeat it. You’ll obtain the Proto Amourworm, the main item you came here for and is needed for the next step of this Quest.

(1 of 4) Start at The Verdure Bridge Shrine and cross the bridge.

Using and Feeding the Proto-Amourworm

You’ll now need access to Zodiac Village, via the "Ruyi Scroll" iconRuyi Scroll, to complete the final step of this Quest. If you’ve not already done so, head to the North Shore of Bitter Lake in the New West (Chapter 3) to find and complete Chen Loong’s Quest, this will see you get the Ruyi Scroll as a reward and whisk you off to Zodiac Village when used.

This is a sanctuary, where most of the merchants will gather to offer their services, such as the Chen Monkey and "Xu Dog" iconXu Dog. More importantly, you can speak to "Chen Loong" iconChen Loong and choose to deliver the Proto-Amourworm to him. Rest at the nearby Shrine and look to the right of his three pots in front of him to find a new one with the Proto-Amourworm. Approach it and you’ll see that you can feed the Rice Cocoons to it.

(1 of 3) Deliver the Proto-Amourworm to Chen Loong at Zodiac Village.

Making use of the nearby Shrine, feed all three Rice Cocoons to it, remembering to use the Shrine to rest after each one (including the final one). Upon the final refresh, you’ll find a Spirit in place of the Proto-Amourworm, absorb it to obtain the hidden Elder Amourworm Spirit, congratulations!
