Black Myth: Wukong

Yarn and Silk Locations

By
Ben Chard

Just before you reach the first mandatory boss of Chapter 1 in Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll gain the ability to start crafting armor sets from the Shrine (just outside of Guanyin Temple). Not only do these provide valuable increases to your defense, but most sets come with a unique set effect that changes the way you approach encounters in some way. The armor sets in Chapter 1 will require you to track down both Yarn and Silk.

You’ll need a lot of Yarn if you want to craft the first armor set in Black Myth: Wukong.

Where to Find Yarn

Just before you reach the first mandatory boss, Lingxuzi at Guanyin Temple, you’ll find a new Shrine you can interact with. When you do so, you’ll notice a new entry, Craft Armor, which does what it says on the tin. There’s only one armor set you can craft for now, but you’ll need plenty of Yarn if you wish to do so. In fact, for the whole set, you’re going to need 12 Pieces of Yarn along with the requisite Will to craft it. This is well worth going out of the way to get, as it will help with the upcoming bosses.

There are three main methods for obtaining Yarn, and they are as follows:

  • As drops from the majority of enemies in Chapter 1

  • Purchased from some Shrines

  • Found in chests scattered about

The only method that you can farm is the first, and that’s by using a Shrine to reset the enemies and keep fighting them until you get what you need. You should use this method last, after you’ve looted as much as you can from chests or purchased the inventory from a Shrine. A good place for this, then, is the Forest of Wolves - Outside the Forest Shrine, as it’s a larger open area with more enemies for you to slaughter. You’ll also get the added benefit of gaining EXP.

You may not be aware of this, but Shrines in Black Myth: Wukong have their own inventory based on the Chapter, save for a different shop for any “Secret” areas (of which there is one per Chapter). For the purpose of this guide, you’re looking for any Shrines that may be selling Yarn, and in Chapter 1, which doesn’t leave you with much choice. You’ll be able to buy four pieces of Yarn at 300 Will a piece, which you will most likely accrue while farming the enemies from the first method.

Finally, the chests that you come across throughout the entirety of Chapter 1 will often include Yarn in them (the wooden chests especially). Specifically, there’s a chest in the corner of the courtyard where you unlock this system (Guanyin Temple) that houses two Yarn!

(1 of 2) You can find some free Yarn in a chest at the Guanyin Temple Shrine.

Where to Find Silk

If you’re exploring every nook and cranny in the Black Wind Mountain (Chapter 1) and have completed The Three Bell Locations Quest, you’ll have defeated Elder Jinchi and with him, unlocked the Bronze armor set, which will massively help against the final boss of Chapter 1.

The main issue you have, however, is that you will need Silk to craft the set, and that’s very hard to come by in Chapter 1. Once you reach Chapter 2, this will be the common drop from most enemies, but for now in Chapter 1, you’re at the mercy of it being a rare drop from the tougher enemies, finding the odd piece in a Chest (such as the Chests in Secret Area: Guanyin Temple), or purchasing two pieces of Silk from the Shrine in Secret Area: Guanyin Temple. It’s not plentiful, but it’ll allow you to craft a few pieces to help against the boss. Once you reach Chapter 2, Silk will become a lot more plentiful and can be purchased from Shrines.
