As you progress through Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll amass a large collection of Curios, which you find by checking out our All Curios guide. It may seem like you’re limited to just two you can equip at any given time but fortunately, there is a way to unlock a third slot, keep reading to learn how!
How to Unlock the Third Curio Slot¶
The process of unlocking the third Curio Slot is a lengthy one, and you’ll have to play through half of the journey before you can realistically get your hands on it. To begin with, you must push on until you reach Chapter 3, in The New West. This is a lengthy Chapter that spans many Shrines, and you’ll need to press on until you reach the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Shrine, this is after the events at the Pagoda Realm’s prison.
Once you reach this Shrine, head to the left of it (when facing it) along the shore to spot a Loong, approaching this will begin the battle with Chen Loong and his quest, that ultimately culminates in getting the Ruyi Scroll. This is your main goal, and what you need to access the place you need to go, Zodiac Village.
This acts like a Sanctuary for all of the Zodiac Deities you’ve been meeting on your journey so far, such as the Chen Monkey and Xu Dog. More importantly, there’s a new NPC here, a blacksmith by the name of the Yin Tiger, and this is who you’re looking for. Not only will the Yin Tiger offer to upgrade your armor (for rare materials), but you’ll also see the option to challenge him, this is the task you need to complete!
The Yin Tiger Challenge¶
As you may expect by the area in front of the Yin Tiger, as soon as you select this option, you’ll be thrust into a battle with this fearsome foe. How challenging this will be purely depends on your current Level, we finally managed to get him down around Level 55, when we first unlocked Zodiac Village. If you’ve not done so already, be sure to put some points into the A Pluck of Many spell, this will help out greatly and if you’re confident with the Rock Solid parry, this can help massively too. Unfortunately, he will see right through Immobilize, instantly breaking the illusion so avoid using that at all to save your Mana.
Despite having a massive sword, the Yin Tiger moves relatively quickly, and he can disappear into the wind and rematerialize at will, often with a heavy attack. This can be anything from a dash attack, to a slam into the ground from the air, so if you see him disappear, get ready to dodge (or Parry with Rock Solid) as soon as he appears again. If you have medicine that can improve your damage reduction, make use of it, as every little helps.
Finally, the Yin Tiger has a cinematic attack, where he can grab you and perform a combo that will leave you near death, be sure to heal immediately following it. If you see him charging up his blade, he’s going to unleash an attack that hits everything in a line in front of him, if you can manage to dodge to the side of him here, this will create an opening. If you lose the battle, you’ll recover all your HP and Mana and can challenge him again instantly. This ultimately becomes a task of attempting the Yin Tiger until you can memorize his patterns enough as you’ll need to be close when you dodge his attacks to get a few strikes in.
Once you defeat the Yin Tiger, he’ll hand over his sword which will unlock the Ebon Flow Transformation, allowing you to transform into the Yin Tiger himself! Speak to him once more, and you’ll see a new option “Equip More Curios”, simply click this and you’ll have yourself a shiny new Curio Slot, congratulations!
