The Pagoda Realm Prisoner Quest

There are many hidden secrets to find in Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong, but perhaps the most hidden is how to open the purple circle locked doors and release the Prisoner you speak to in the Pagoda Realm. You’ll have to play through the majority of the Chapter to do so, but the rewards are well worth it, keep reading to learn how to complete this Quest.

The Prisoner Quest takes place throughout Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong.

Prisoner Location

As you proceed through Chapter 3, you’ll battle "Kang-Jin Loong" iconKang-Jin Loong and, despite winning the battle, you’ll find yourself captured and tossed into a cell in the Pagoda Realm. This is a dreary place where every now and then, you’ll hear chanting which sends everyone into a frenzy, spawns terrifying "Lantern Warden" iconLantern Wardens, and lowers your own HP!

As you exit your cell, however, you’ll hear a man speaking so go to the nearby cell and you’ll find the Prisoner, who appears to have given up on escaping this realm. Look closely at his cell and you’ll notice that there’s a purple circle on the door, this ward will prevent entry and it’s not the only one you’ll come across in the Pagoda Realm. Your next step involves tracking down the Prisoner’s four Captains to unlock the purple doors.

Unlocking the Purple Ward Doors and the Four Captain Locations

Your next step is a lengthy one as you’ll need to track down the four Captains, three of which are boss fights to get their essence and remove the ward on these cells. The table below will tell you where you can find each of these Captains:

(1 of 4) Drop down to the left of the Upper Pagoda Shrine to find Captain Lotus-Vision.

Captain Location
"Captain Lotus-Vision" iconCaptain Lotus-Vision From the Upper Pagoda Shrine, turn left and drop down to the boss arena below.
"Captain Wise-Voice" iconCaptain Wise-Voice When you reach the top of the Pagoda, you’ll need to defeat this Captain to leave, you cannot miss this battle.
"Captain Void-Illusion" iconCaptain Void-Illusion Go to Valley of Ecstasy - Longevity Road and search around to the right to find the remains of this Captain.
"Captain Kalpa-Wave" iconCaptain Kalpa-Wave As you continue forward toward Thunderhead Temple, you’ll encounter this Captain just outside. Another boss you cannot miss.

Once you have obtained the Spirit Key Item from all four of the Captains, make your return to the Prisoner in the Pagoda Realm. To reach him easily, go to the Lower Pagoda Shrine and trace your steps back, you’ll find that the Cell is now open.

Prisoner Quest Rewards

Speaking to the Prisoner in his cell will give you some interesting lore about him, and he’ll also hand over the "Chubai Spearhead" iconChubai Spearhead, which is a material you can use to craft the "Chu-Bai Spear" iconChu-Bai Spear. This weapon will incorporate spear-style skills to your Light Attack combos and increase the damage of "Thrust Stance" iconThrust Stance skills! What’s more, if you spoke to the Rats in the house in Sandgate Village and have killed the other Rat Princes, you’ll find a body here with a sword. Interact with it to learn the "Ashen Slumber" iconAshen Slumber Transformation!

With all of the doors open to you now in the Pagoda Realm, pay a visit through here one more time to open all of the cells that had a purple ward, you’ll not only find Chests, but also a new Spirit to obtain!
