Mission 16: The Trial of Lake Acuity

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for Mission 16: “The Trial of Lake Acuity” in Pokémon Legends: "Arceus" IconArceus (PLA).

How to Start Mission 16

(1 of 2) Trial number 3 takes place at Lake Acuity.

You’ll receive this mission alongside Mission 14 and Mission 15 after speaking to Cogita at the Ancient Retreat during Mission 13, “Disaster Looming”. Like the previous two mission, you must seek a lake guardian–the one at Lake Acuity.

1. Head to the Island at Lake Acuity

(1 of 2) Your destination is the located atop the mountains to the far north.

During the story, you should’ve visited Lake Acuity or went near it while chasing after Sabi. Enter Alabaster Icelands, then fast-travel to the Pearl Settlement if possible. Use Sneasler to climb up the cliff north from the settlement. When you reach the top, near Snowpoint Temple, the lake is a short distance west. Glide or swim across to the island in the lake’s center.

2. Undertake Uxie’s Trial

Just like the other lake trials, there are two parts to the trial. First, you must deal with the aggressive alpha Pokémon in front of you.

Alpha Pokémon

(1 of 2) Hisuian Zoroark is a Normal and Ghost-type.

If your priority is KOing Zoroark, Dark-types are the way to go. Due to its unique typing, Zoroark is immune to two of its common weaknesses: Fighting and Ghost.

Meanwhile, if attempting to capture the alpha, Normal-types are ideal for stalling. Of course, they should have non-Normal moves or they’ll do no damage. Since it’s a Ghost, False Swipe has no effect, so be cautious or save beforehand and reload if you KO it.

Watch out for Nasty Plot (raises Zoroark’s offensive stats), Snarl (lowers your offensive stats) and its unique move Bitter Malice (may inflict frostbite; deals more damage if foe has an ailment, such as frostbite). Normal-types are immune to Bitter Malice.

(1 of 2) If you’re unsure of the answer, you can refer to your Pokédex.

The second half of the trial involves solving a brain-teaser. Individually, how many eyes do "Combee" IconCombee, "Zubat" IconZubat, "Unown" IconUnown, "Magneton" IconMagneton and "Dusclops" IconDusclops have? You’ll be instructed to input your answer as a 5-digit number, following the order provided.

Give the correct answer and you’ll be rewarded with "Uxie" IconUxie’s Claw.

3. Visit the Shrouded Ruins

(1 of 2) We’re getting major “end of the world” vibes here.

Assuming this is your third and final trial, when you leave the cavern, you’ll be escorted straight to the Shrouded Ruins at the Crimson Mirelands. There, the three treasures you obtained will combine to make the Red Chain. However, Volo brings dire news.

Otherwise, if this is your first or second trial, return to the Ancient Retreat and speak to Cogita. Then go and complete the remaining trials.
