Pokémon Legends: Arceus

How to Find & Evolve Hisuian Growlithe

By
Staci Miller

This is how to find and evolve Hisuian "Growlithe" IconGrowlithe in Pokémon Legends: "Arceus" IconArceus.

Regional Differences

Hisuian Growlithe actually doesn’t look much different from his Kanto counterpart. Their white fur is more pronounced, for example, and they seem to be fluffier. It also has a little horn on its head.

Looking very much like the Growlithe we know and love, but with some differences.

The biggest change to Hisuian Growlithe is his type. In Arceus, Growlithe has become a dual pokemon_bdsp_fire17.png / pokemon_bdsp_rock17.png type, rather than just pokemon_bdsp_fire17.png as they were previously. This gives them some more advantages, but also some more weaknesses. Water and Ground-type moves are particularly dangerous, giving them 4x the damage they would normally get from any given attack.

The Pokédex entry states: These Pokémon live in packs in the snowy mountains and defend themselves with icy breath. I suspect this species changed its form to adapt to the frigid climate.

Where to Find Hisuian Growlithe

You can’t find the original Growlithe in Arceus — only the Hisuian version.

You won’t be able to find one until you get to the Cobalt Coastlands. You can then head to Windbreak Stand and Veilstone Cape. Around these areas, you should be able to find Growlithe. They don’t seem to be based on a specific time of day, so no need to worry about when you get there.

The other way you can get Hisuian Growlithe is, of course, trading with friends. In the north west side of Jubilife village, approach the NPC named Simona and tell her you want to trade with friends.

How to Evolve Hisuian Growlithe Into Hisuian Arcanine

If you’re looking to evolve Growlithe into "Arcanine" IconArcanine, you can do it the same way you would in all of the other games — by using a Fire Stone. Leveling up will have no effect on the status of Growlithe’s evolution, and this is the only way.

Arcanine is all the more fierce in Arceus.

Hisuian Arcanine is much darker than their original counterpart, and still has the classic horn on its head that Hisuian Growlithe had.

How to Find a Fire Stone

If you’re looking for a Fire Stone, there are a couple of ways you can achieve this.

The first is by buying one from the Trading Post. Once you’ve earned 1000 Merit Points by completing various requests, you can purchase one there.

When you have access to Ursaluna after completing Mission 7, you can use it to sniff out rare items on the ground. This is a more random method that may take some time, but it’s possible to find every evolution stone this way, so keep at it! It’s often quicker to do this than rack up those Merit Points.

The last possible way to get a Fire Stone is from Tumblestone Rocks. Keep smashing them open to collect those crafting materials and you might just find that you acquire a special evolution stone from one. This, of course, is more likely in the Space-Time Distortions where rare Pokémon and items can be found.
