Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

M16 Camo Challenges Explained & Tips for Completing Them

By
Craig Robinson

The M16 is the burst fire weapon for AR gamers in MW2. This weapon is notorious amongst the MW2 community for being painful and tedious to grind. While leveling it up and getting attachments is a painful experience, we are here to offer tips on how to make sure the MW2 M16 Camo challenges go much smoother.

Here is a look at the M16 Camo Challenges in MW2, and tips on how to get each one.

MW2 M16 Camo Challenges Explained

Here is a closer look at MW2’s M16 Camo challenges

Challenge Requirement Camo reward
Challenge 1 Get 50 kills with the M16 Modern Woodland
Challenge 2 Get 10 Double kills with the M16 Marsh Digital
Challenge 3 Get 30 kills while crouched with the M16 Dank Forest
Challenge 4 Get 20 kills while mounted with the M16 Intoxicate
Gold challenge Get three kills without dying ten times Gold Camo
Platinum Challenge 25 longshots with the M16 Platinum Camo
Polyatomic Challenge 25 headshots with the M16 Polyatomic
Orion Challenge Currently unknown Orion Camo

Three of the four basic challenges are fairly simple to get. Simply ADS enemies wherever possible, either prone, crouched, and stood, and even hip fire kill if they happen to run into your face. The trick to getting kills for the M16 camo challenges is getting recoil control attachments and pre-aiming your shots. That way, you can land the three rounds and get the kills you need. If you don’t have recoil control attachments or are still struggling to get the kills, you should spend most of your time mounted up, looking for close or medium-range kills. Aim for just under the head, so the recoil drifts into their head, especially early on.

When it comes to the M16’s Camo Challenge 2, we recommend getting your hands on the SPW 40 MM underbarrel grenade launcher. It means you can one-shot two people with the noob tube itself, especially when enemies are clumped together on Hardpoints. You unlock this around level 13, which is similar to when you get challenge two. So, don’t bother gunning for double kills until you get the noob tube. This should make it much easier to get double kills, instead of praying to the recoil gods you can kill two people faster than they can kill you.

Lastly, we recommend taking the Recon Drone Field Upgrade. You can use that, even if the enemies have cold-blooded as their bonus perk. Send it in the air, and you can see where the enemy players are going. It should mean you can path and predict where you can reliably get double kills with the noob tube.

M16 Gold Camo Challenge and Higher Mastery Level Challenges

Once you get the four base challenges done, you can then go for the M16 Gold Camo Challenge. You need really good recoil and damage range-improving attachments, and will be your play as we advance through the camo challenges. The best loadout for progressing the more advanced M16 Camo Challenges is as follows:

  • 14“ Carbine Shroud barrel for damage range and bullet velocity
  • RF Crown 50 or equivalent compensator
  • FSS Sharkfin or FTAC Ripper Underbarrel for ADS stability
  • Sakin ZX Grip for ADS speed increase
  • Optic of your choice

You will need these to reliably get three kills without dying using the M16. Once you do this ten times, you will unlock the golden camo for the M16.

Now onto the M16’s Platinum Camo Challenge. You once again need to use the same set-up as the gold setup. This is because you need the damage range to kill long-range enemies, which are typically 45+ meters away. You will need to use two bursts to kill people at range. We recommend finding angles on Taraq, such as the green tents near the graveyard and looking near the ruin area, or looking north towards the gated house for long-range kills. You can also do this in other maps like Embassy’s outside area or Invasion maps. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the The XTEN Angel-40 is a great holographic with a built in range finder. It should make it easier to determine those ranges and make this weak range burst fie gun much easier to complete.

If you have a friend playing with you, why don’t the both of you shoot the same person? The first person can hit first, while the burst comes in to take the kill.

For those who get to the M16 Polyatomic Camo Challenge, you need to land headshots. Once again, use the same build and strategy of setting yourself in positions where you can easily land headshots. Mount up on areas like Las Almas’s market and cover all the ways people can push or snipe down. It should be easy enough to catch a head or two there. You can also go close range, head into places like Farm 18’s middle building, and burst headshot someone there. Other close or mid-range areas you can pre-aim in also work too.

This concludes the M16 Camo Challenges tips. If we find out about the Orion challenge for ARs, we will be sure to include them on this page.
