The Alone mission in Modern Warfare takes you away from the rooty-tooty point-and-shooty actions of the CoD franchise into a stealth horror mission. You play as Soap, who needs to craft and improvise. While you can take guns from fallen enemies, or even loot safes to get silenced weapons, one playthrough requires you not to shoot a single round from a gun all game. Doing so will award you with the Gunless trophy, adding your way to pretty platinum. To make getting the MW2 Gunless trophy easier, we have created this walkthrough, to help you stealth past, learn the guards’ pathing, and advise on crafting and when to use resources.

MW2 Gunless Trophy Guide¶
The first half of the mission is fairly straightforward and requires little to no explanation. Follow the tutorial to the level, grabbing the basic crafting materials, torch and all the other goodies. Go through the usual roundabout area, scavenging as much wax, chemicals, explosives, mouse traps and other goodies. Once you’ve got as many materials as possible, turn them into smoke bombs and trip mines and proceed with the mission. Now it’s time to use the first mine and bottle bait to progress. Note a guard or two will come gunning you down after the explosion. We advise using a smoke bomb on the corner of the alleyway to choke the gunners out as they check on the explosion, and then run for the ledge. On easier difficulties, it’s not an issue, but if you’re doing it on a harder difficulty, you could die reasonably quickly.
Explore the early parts of the missions as normal, stocking up on items the best you can.
Now you’re done with the first area, head to the house with the shotgun rigged to the door. Go to the car, jump through the window, and then disarm the shotty to progress. Now you have to make sure you take your finger off your trigger button to avoid accidental gunfire. If you do shoot, reload the checkpoint as soon as possible. You will lose your trophy progress if the game saves after you shot. Proceed through the housing area, and loot as many materials as possible. Once you’re done with the shotgun building, head upstairs and loot both buildings. Our advice is to ensure you have two smoke bombs and mines in reserve before you jump down onto the first floor of the coffee shop.
Gunless Trophy: The Coffe House Street Phase¶
Now you’re onto the harder parts of the mission. Here, you will have to deal with actual street patrols, with many guards around. The first thing you want to do is loot as much stuff from the first-floor coffee shop as possible. Craft more items if you need to, and avoid the windows.
TLDR instructions:
- Loot the coffee shop.
- Sneak into the garage
- Cross the road towards the laundry room - loot the oil in the box.
- Enter the bar’s side door
- Climb the bar’s second floor
- Drop down into the shrubbery
- Sneak through the road via the archways
- Seak through the fountain area into the flooded street.
Head towards the garage and use that as cover to get across the road. You still need to watch for patrols, though.
Now you’re done, head to the garage on the left side of the coffee shop if you’re facing the front door. Guards patrol the outside of the garage and coffee chop. Wait till it’s clear, or throw a bottle if you need to and get inside the garage via the open window. Now you’re inside, check for patrols in the garage, as they wander in from time to time. If it’s clear, loot what you can from the garage. Be weary of the guards walking in through the garage office door, the door near the coffee house, and the main road door. If guards do enter, hide and throw a bottle the opposite way. The next objective is to get across the road the best you can You can use the white car and the military truck as cover from the guards patrolling the road, and those near the garage.
Once you’re over the road, head inside the pinkish room with the washing machines on the left-hand wall, along with a box. We recommend opening the box, as it contains oil used to craft molotovs. Now you can walk around the corridor, and into another alleyway, with a soldier patrolling that exit. Our advice is to head left into the darkest part of the alleyway, go prone behind the car, and wait for him to turn around before continuing. Once he is gone, open the door to your left and enter the bar.
Now you’re in the bar, you have time to stock up. There are many bindings, chemicals, explosives and other goodies to help you fill your crafting inventory. Stock up, craft if necessary, and then move out. Once you head to the front parlor of the bar, a guard will walk into the gate and open it moments later. You will need to hide behind the pillar in the parlor. We recommend throwing a bottle into the bar to lure him inside, using the pillar as cover to remain undetected. Now he’s in the bar, head upstairs using the stairs in the parlor. There’s more loot upstairs for you to take. Once you’re done, head over to the upstairs balcony and jump the fence.
Jump from the bar into the shrubbery and wait til the coast is clear.
As you jump the fence, go prone immediately, and use the shrubbery in front of the bar’s window as cover. It will drop any attention you are building by patrols on the final part of the road. Wait for the coast to clear and move through the archways in the road. Inside the next area is a Day of the Dead-themed fountain, with light-up green lights that make it easier to spot you. Sneak the best you can, using bottles to bait enemies onto one-half of the fountain area. If you get spotted, feel free to cover yourself by using smokes on the final few guards and get to the flooded street below the fountain. If they are clumped together, a mine will help out. But then you need to run for the flooded area and move on.
The flooded section¶
Now you’re into the flooded area. Feel free to get what loot you can as you swim by. Once you get into the flooded tunnel, you can dive underwater to get through the guards easily. Check for the red lights in the water as clues to the locations of the baddies are. If you need to breathe, you can quickly get to the water’s surface and dive back down without risk of detection. A guard will be nearby when you need to climb the stairs to get out. You will need to stealth takedown the guard to escape. Once you do, other guards will check on him, so you need to climb those stairs and get into the alleyway by jumping the car over the fence.
Swim underwater,and watch for red lights as clues to the enemy’s position.
Now you’re over the fence, use what resources you have left to craft molotovs, smokes and mines. You must craft as many as possible and loot what you have left in the area. You also need to craft a Pry Tool to get through to the next stage of the level.
Gunless Trophy: Church stage¶
The next stage of the level will have the guards pursue your location after Ghost saves you in the cutscene. Now it’s time to use those moltovs, mines and smokes to your advantage. We recommend throwing a smoke grenade at the first guard behind the white car, shooting at you and the doorway. You can then run up and stealth takedown him. Now head right into the alleyway between the car and the building you just ran from. Head inside the building, and you will enter the kitchen area of a diner. There’s also some cooking oil for you to take and make more molotovs.
Hide in the diner, rigging it with mines at the door and baiting others with stealth takedowns using smokes and bottles.
As you finish crafting, head through the kitchen, into a corridor, and then open the door You will head inside a diner. Some heavy-armored guards will approach. We recommend hiding behind the bar, and throwing a bottle at the opposite wall to alert the guard. You can then stealth takedown it. Doing so will alert the guards as he goes radio silent. Now it’s time to set up your defenses like it’s Home Alone, booby-trapping the doorway with mines. Take out as many as you can. If the heavily armored guards come in, feel free to smoke them, and then stealth takedown those guards, as long as there isn’t another guard covering them. They’ll also get stunned by nearby mines, if they don’t outright die to them, allowing you to take them down if necessary.
Once you’ve done all you can, craft while you have the chance, then head over to the other side of the road using the kitchen alleyway. You can use the cars, and other street objects as cover. Now head into the wider alleyway near the pickup truck. You will find an office with more things to loot, and more items in the front of the bank building you’re in.
If any guards are left, throw a Molotov or mine +bottle combo at them, and make your way to the church. Craft all you can before getting there, as getting to the church gates spawns Ghost and causes reinforcements to arrive.

Once you and Ghost are on the run, head right down the alleyway again, get inside the bank, and go through the alleyway you were in earlier. You can easily throw molly or smokes at the enemies looking your way. Once those are dead, smoke cover and run for the pickup truck door on the right. Enter, and you will get the Gunless Trophy!
