In one of the more bizarre videogame licensing deals in recent times, you will soon be able to go into battle with three of the world’s major soccer stars as your operator.
Paris St. Germain’s Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi, arguably the best player ever, and Paul Pogba of Juventus (formerly Manchester United), are coming to MW2 in Season 1.
We have already seen Neymar make an appearance as a Fortnite skin, but the prospect of seeing the three of them alongside the likes of Ghost and Soap, and even existing real-life Special Forces star Rudy Reyes will take a little getting used to.
Indeed, the initial reaction on Twitter was less than positive as CoD players questioned the direction the game is going.
But, added they have been, so here’s how you will be able to go into battle with your favorite soccer star in the coming weeks.
How To Get Neymar, Messi, And Pogba in CoD MW2¶
Neymar Jr, Messi, and Pogba will appear as Operators during Season 1 of the Modern Warfare Battle Pass which you can either purchase as an extra or will have included as part of your package if you bought the Vault Edition at launch.
We will get one new Operator a week in what is being billed as Limited Time Bundles as part of the ‘Modern Warfare FC Event’.Whether there will be a cost, or they will be unlocked via challenges has not been made clear at this stage, but if you want them we think you might need to dust off your credit card just in case.
The footballers themselves will hit the game on the following dates as part of the wider Season 1 roadmap which you see more information on right here.
- Neymar Jr. :November 21
- Paul Pogba: November 25
- Leo Messi: November 29.
All three players, besides being big names in their respective fields are known super fans of Call of Duty, as are many major sports stars. Who knows, you may have been matched up in a lobby with any of them numerous times before.
It will be interesting to see if any other star names come to Modern Warfare II in later seasons of the game and whether this move has opened up the floodgates for tie-ins. You could certainly see NFL or NBA players wanting to get in on the action before too long. The addition of famous Operators may just have to be something we need to come to terms with and embrace
