Arroyo | Complete the Main Job The Rescue |
Description¶
Beat on the Brat: Arroyo is a subquest of the Beat on the Brat superquest, one of the four Side Jobs you must complete before you can challenge the final fighter at the end of the Beat on the Brat questline.
Beat on the Brat: Buck¶
You’ll find the champion of Arroyo waiting north of the Megabuilding H4 fast travel terminal, which itself is along the southwestern end of the Arroyo district. Find and talk to Buck, your opponent for this bout, and he’ll express no shortage of confidence. Either offer to fight him for money alone, or mention his rifle and you can convince him to up the ante considerably and throw in his rifle.
Buck talks a big game, but he can’t back it up. Aside from the typical melee combos, there’s really nothing special about him; he doesn’t have Charge Jump or Sandevistan and will readily take damage from a prepared fighter. If you have a Sandevistan operating system equipped, or have invested in Body, you shouldn’t have any trouble with Buck. He might just be the easiest battle in this questline, as there’s only one of him, your fighting area is relatively large, and he doesn’t deal all that much damage. He’s not above using healing items during the fight, though.
After the fight is where things can get tricky, as if you goaded Buck into betting his gun he’ll renege and sic his goons on you. He himself will be fully healed (presumably courtesy of his Combat Stim, which he neglected to use during your fight), but otherwise won’t fight any differently. You’re not held to the rules of pugilism anymore, so take out your best weapon and teach Buck and his buddies a lesson in sportsmanship, then grab O’Five, Buck’s iconic weapon from some barrels near where you originally talked to him.
If you didn’t get Buck to gamble his gun, he’ll bitch sorely about his defeat, and you’ll get an opportunity to provoke him, but you can also attempt to futilely appeal to his nonexistent sense of sportsmanship, or just leave. Either way, a more lethal confrontation isn’t necessary. You won’t be able to grab his gun if you didn’t challenge him for it, or if you didn’t provoke him further after the fight.
Whether you defeat Buck twice or merely once, the Side Job will end.
