Description¶

The Beast in Me: City Center is one of the subquests of the superquest The Beast in Me. This is the first subquest that will start shortly after you go meet with Claire in her garage.

Finish the Race: City Center¶

When your chat is over, leave the garage. You’ll need to wait a day in-game (this seems a bit wonky - best to go do something else in the meantime, as skipping time 24 hours doesn’t always get you text from Claire you’re looking for) until Claire texts you. Read it, reply, then head to the marked location on the map. When you arrive, call Claire, decide whether you’re using her vehicle or one of yours (hers is more than adequate for this race) then sit on a nearby bench to give the game time to load the race.

After the timeskip, head over to Claire, take the shard she gives you, then enter whatever vehicle you chose and wait for the race to start. This race is pretty easy, as the streets are wide and obstacles that can actually stop you are relatively few… if you drive reasonably well, anyways. There are some sharp turns, however, and your best bet for them is to take it easy, slow down, and make the turn comfortably. It’s more than the AI can manage, and if you get the hang of it, you’ll gain ground on every turn.

Other than that, just focus on following the arrows, hitting checkpoints (these are very generous, and as long as you’re sticking to the route you should be fine) anticipate turns, and try not to make any catastrophic mistakes. Even if you do, the AI does almost everything in its power to not win - it’s very hard to get below third place, and even if you finish dead last you’ll still complete the quest.

Whatever outcome you get, Claire will offer to drive you back to her garage. If you want to go make a sandwich, it’s not a bad idea, and letting Claire take the wheel will help you understand why you’re the driver in these races. When she finally manages to reach the destination at the glacial pace she drives, get out of the vehicle and this quest will end. Wait for a followup text from Claire and the next job in this questline, The Beast in Me: Badlands should begin.
