As a nomad, the road isn’t just a means of transportation - it’s your means of earning a living, it’s your home. Unfortunately, your loyal steed has seen better days, which is why you’ll find yourself stuck in a nondescript garage south of Night City.
The Nomad Walkthrough - Cyberpunk 2077¶
Loot the place for various consumables and junk (no matter how useless it seems, junk can be disassembled into Item Components of various grades of rarity, which can then be used to craft other, more useful items) then talk to the Mechanic. Exhaust the dialog options, enter the car and start your engines. Third time’s the charm, and after some more chatter (with both the Mechanic and a less-than-friendly Sheriff) you’ll be free to go.
Your reception was less-than-stellar in the garage, so you’ve got to head to the nearby telecom tower to get some intel. Drive your way there (the game will provide you with some driving controls - press [RIGHT] on the D-Pad to switch between 1st person and 3rd person cameras) following the yellow quest trail on your minimap on the top right of the screen.
When you arrive, exit your car and open the gate to reach the base of the tower. Bit of climbing up ahead, as the stairs will only get you so far. Climb a ladder, then turn right to find a control box which you can open to get the signal - and info - you need. Looks like your client - one Jackie Welles - can be found at a nearby farm. Climb down (if you’re adventurous, go scrounging for loot scattered about the tower as you go) then get back in your car and drive to the meeting place.
When you arrive, head inside and you’ll find Jackie Welles. After some chatter, head outside with the cargo, open the trunk for Jackie, then get in the driver’s seat and drive to the border crossing. Maneuver through the dialog with Jackie, then head into the inspection building and give the Border Guard your weapon, then head into the room indicated and talk to another Border Guard. Nothing you say (or don’t say) here matters, so do what you wish, then recover your weapon from the front desk, exit the building and return to Jackie, who now takes over driving duties.
After a bit of driving, V’s hunch will prove correct, as some corpos show up to take back your cargo. What follows is a chase scene where you’ll get to shoot at the pursuing corpos, although this is mostly scripted - your performance doesn’t really matter. Afterwards you’ll be hiding out in a garage with an irate Jackie. Say what you will and you’ll get a glimpse at the cargo you’re smuggling, and make a new business partner.
With the formation of that new partnership, the game will fast forward six months. Watch the scenes and you’ll be back in control at the start of the main job The Rescue, but before you can really start that job, Jackie will offer you an opportunity to make use of a training sim. This simulation - Practice Makes Perfect - functions as the game’s tutorial, and you’re encouraged to play through it. Pick which one you want to continue on.
