Cyberpunk 2077

Firestarter Walkthrough and Choices

By
Nathan Garvin

This quest begins immediately after finishing the previous main job, I’ve Seen That Face Before; you’ve successfully intercepted the twins and stolen their identities, now it’s time to meet with Hansen and spring Songbird. This page will provide a full walkthrough for the main job Firestarter in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, providing information on how to survive the encounter with Hansen and pick the correct dialog options, as well as how to side with Reed or Songbird and the consequences of making either choice.

(1 of 2) The first half of the job Firestarter involves you impersonating the twins convincingly enough to fool Hansen - you can bring up an info box containing pertinent information at any time.

(left), As you go to meet Hansen, you’ll need to forfeit your weapons, limiting your ability to respond should anything go awry. (right)

How to Survive the Meeting with Hansen

Since this quest starts immediately after I’ve Seen That Face Before, with little meaningful break in the action, your first steps are fairly set in stone. Drive the twins’ car to the stadium, following the objective trail and responding to Alex however you wish. When you park you’ll be prompted to press DualSense-DPad-Right to bring up relevant information on the twin whose identity you’ve stolen. This will vary depending on the body type you’ve chosen for V - a masculine V will have assumed the form of Aymeric, while a masculine V will adopt the guise of Aurore. They’re twins, but not clones, and they have different quirks, preferences, aversions, and histories, as follows:

Aurore and Aymeric’s Background Data

Aurore Aymeric
Fashion aficionado, a fan of Kerry Eurodyne’s style. Transfers his memories to external storage disks.
Spent 5 years in La Sante prison, VIP wing. His memories from 2073-2075 were stolen.
Born with GJB2 hearing loss, underwent gene therapy. Employed at Petrochem 2072-2074.
Ties to the criminal underworld in France, where she has a bounty on her head. Treats his body like a temple, avoids substance abuse.
Blacklisted at the Crystal Palace since 2075. Classic car collector.
Highly allergic to strawberries.

In addition, you will need to remember whether V or the twins won the poker game back at the Black Sapphire, it might come up.

When you’re ready, follow Alex and banter with a BARGHEST officer named Murphy up an elevator and over to some lockers where you’ll have to deposit your weapons when prompted and undergo a scan. Say whatever you wish as you do the little walk-and-talk with Murphy, nothing you say here matters, but Reed will warn you to stay in character - and check the details provided for your character, above! You may not be able to say anything revealing to Murphy, but Hansen is sharper and when you meet him he’ll ask questions pertaining to the pasts of Aymeric and Aurore (whichever your V is impersonating) hoping to catch you in a lie. If you say the wrong thing (or fail to respond), Alex and V will end up flatlined - no combat, no QTE, just a cutscene kill. Not every choice matters, and there may be more than one right/wrong option, but following the responses listed below should get you through your chat with Hansen.

(1 of 2) During your meeting with Hansen, he’ll ask you probing questions.

Aurore Dialog Choices with Hansen

Below you’ll find a working set of responses for Aurore:

Hansen Says Aurore’s Response
[Sit] We are not in a hurry.
Well, we’ll fix that right quick… Do you often conduct business hungover? [Move closer] Always.
I’d like to raise a little toast. To a successful day of business. [Drink] To your health, Colonel.
[Take Aymeric’s drink] Your loss, brother.
You two left richer and happier, I hope? We lost it all.
She told me you did time together at La Sante, remembers you well. It’s not a topic I like to discuss.
Raquel. Asked me to say hello. She did her time under max security, C Block, said her rat tattoo might jog your memory. We were in different blocks.
That flag’s a piss-soaked pile of ash now. What I built, I built with my own two hands, for me. The FIA is still interested in you.
Ah, by the way… at the Sapphire, you asked me to contact a certain fashion type… Remind me who? Kerry Eurodyne’s tailor.
An expansion, into Western Europe. What I need is a reliable partner on the ground. Two would be even better. [Inspect Hansen’s pistol] The arms trade is not for us.
I need an in with Le Collectif. Impossible.

Aymeric Dialog Choices with Hansen

Below you’ll find a working set of responses for Aymeric:

Hansen Says Aymeric’s Response
[Sit] We are not in a hurry.
Hm-hm. I’m sure. I hear you’re not the type to do anything hasty. I heard the same about you.
The Black Sapphire is my pride ‘n’ joy. I worked hard to make it the go-to destination for Night City’s royalty. You are not from here.
Interesting… And what rare gem brought you halfway around the world? A Rayfield Aerondight.
Interesting. Because the first I ever heard of you, why, it was about you being in the market for a used car. But certainly not a Rayfield. Your source is wrong.
Not very American, I know, but it’s a custom my friends in Siberia taught me to love. [Don’t take a drink] You have many friends.
Then forgive me. I must be mistaken. An interesting knife…
Corporations rarely let your caliber talent slip through their fingers. How did you wriggle out of the contract? I don’t remember.

After your meeting with Hansen, you’ll head down to the mainframe with Songbird, where you’ll have to choose to side with Songbird or side with Reed.

Choice Betray Songbird or Betray Reed

Survive your conversation with Hansen, after which you and Alex will split up, with her remaining with Hansen and you following Songbird. Do another walk and talk until you’re prompted to jack into the mainframe, after which you’ll be presented with the single most impactful choice you’ve had to make yet in Phantom Liberty… aside from whether you wanted to continue with the expansion at all, anyways: Side with Songbird, or with Reed.

If you pick the option BETRAY REED | I’m with you., Alex will kill Hansen and after Songbird finishes hacking you’ll be prompted to follow her to a door, then start your escape. This version of the quest will be covered on the page [Firestarter Walkthrough - Songbird Route]. Picking this route will lead to an easier second half of the mission Firestarter, as you won’t have to fight Hansen (for obvious reasons), but you’ll still be able to pick up his iconic weapons, Mad Dog and Bald Eagle. You will not, however, gain his iconic knife, Fang, instead getting the iconic weapon Murphy’s Law from his bodyguard.

On the other hand, if you choose BETRAY SONGBIRD | One more second…, Songbird will tip off Hansen, who will kill Alex. After a bit more chatter, a clearly deranged Songbird will murder her way through the secure area and through some doors. Chat with Johnny and you’ll be ready to ready to follow, which is covered on the page [Firestarter Walkthrough - Reed Route]. This is the more difficult route, as you’ll have to face Hansen instead of Murphy, the former of which is almost a proper boss (on par with Cyberpsychos). Defeating Hansen will not only earn you his iconic weapons Mad Dog and Bald Eagle, but also his iconic knife, Fang. Since you don’t encounter Murphy on this route, you won’t get his iconic weapon Murphy’s Law. You also won’t have Songbird helping you escape the stadium, so expect things to be tougher in general.
