Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

MW3 Zombies: Toxic Damage Challenges Explained

By
Craig Robinson

MW3 Zombies mode introduces various challenges players can engage in, some crucial for the Act 1-3 tasks, while others contribute to camo grinds. One notable example is the Toxic damage type, necessitating toxic damage modifications to eliminate zombies within the exclusion zone, or to mind control enemies to serve the forces of living once more. Mostly, it isn’t obvious what it is or entails, so we delve deeper into Toxic damage in MW3 Zombies.

How to Get and Use Toxic Damage in MW3 Zombies

One of the ways to get Toxic Damage in MW3 Zombies is via the Brain Rot ammo and formula.

Primarily, Toxic Damage manifests as ammo modifiers for your weapons. Progressing through Aether rewards on the map, engaging in stronghold clearouts, or fulfilling contracts can yield rewards, some of which might contain Toxic Damage-related ammo upgrades. For the most part, you will find that your currently equipped weapon will acquire a new weapon damage effect, akin to ammunition changes in Multiplayer, such as applying Incendiary.

Another avenue to acquire the Toxic Damage weapon effect is through the random elemental damage perk, granting various damage modifiers, including adding Toxic Damage to the weapon.

For a more lasting application of the Toxic effect, you can earn the Brain Rot Formula. Once in possession of this formula, extract it from the map and craft the ammo type in your gear menu during a pre-game lobby. You can craft this mod once every three hours to guarantee you get Brain Rot and Toxic damage on your weapons when necessary. Once crafted, apply it to your gun as needed, and you can now start progressing your Toxic kill challenges in MWZ as and when needed.

What is Toxic Damage in MW3

For the most part, your Toxic Damage adds a Damage Over Time effect to enemies. This makes it much easier to kill enemies, especially stacking rotting damage on higher-tier enemies, or HVT-type contract missions. It makes it more likely to complete or kill harder enemies regarding damage output. The other benefit is that there is a small chance that Toxic Damage on enemies can mind control foes. You will find that successfully mind-controlled enemies have their health bar turn green and will automatically aggro nearby enemies and fight them on your behalf. There is typically a timer for how long mind-controlled zombies last, and they can also die while mind-controlled by hostile zombies targeting them.

Mind controlling an enemy in large hordes is always a good thing, as that means the AI will turn and fight each either, granting you ample time to create space.

And there you have it; you now know how to get and use Toxic damage in WW3 Zombies.
