You’ve finally made it to Mesa Island and did the trek through the Autumn Hills area. However, at the end, you solved a little puzzle and the Leaf Monster came to life. This page will dive into all of the Leaf Monster’s attacks, as well as give tips and strategies on how to beat it.
How to Beat the Leaf Monster in Sea of Stars¶
The Leaf Monster is not a particularly difficult boss, as it’s more of a “puzzle” battle than anything else. The reason it’s a puzzle battle is because you can’t damage it while it has its leaves on its body. Once it uses a certain move, the boss will become vulnerable to damage, so you will need to wait until that happens. In the meantime, you will want to simply do normal strikes to build up some Live Mana, or use that chance to heal your party, if needed.
All Leaf Monster’s Attacks in Sea of Stars¶
The Leaf Monster doesn’t really have a lot of attacks, as it only has three for the entire fight.
- Claw Swipe: This is the Leaf Monster’s normal attack, where it does an overhead strike with both of its claws. It will do about 30 damage to a single character. It’s a pretty basic attack, so there’s not much else to be said about it.
-
Paincone: The special move for the Leaf Monster, with two Locks. It will jump back, then drop three spiky pine cones on your party, for a single hit to each one. Other than it hitting the entire party (all at the same time, so it’s not hard to time a block), it only does around 25 damage, unblocked.
-
Throw Leaves: The Leaf Monster will take the leaves on its body, create a disc out of them, and shoot it at a single party member. It does about 30 damage to the character, if you don’t time a block. You will have to wait until the boss does this move before you can damage it. After a few turns, it will call back the leaves, which will hit a random character for about 30 damage.
Strategy for the Leaf Monster Boss in Sea of Stars¶
It was briefly mentioned above that the Leaf Monster is more of a “puzzle” boss than anything else, simply because you will do no damage to it while the leaves are on its body. You will have to wait until it uses Throw Leaves before you can actually deal damage, so you should spend your time before that just surviving and preparing. Use normal attacks to spawn Live Mana, and heal your characters, if necessary. Once it uses Throw Leaves, that’s your cue to use your biggest attacks here.
You will only get a few attacks in before it brings the leaves back, hitting another character in the process, and becomes invulnerable again. That’s really the only thing that needs to be said here, as the other two attacks aren’t really anything special, and their damage isn’t anything to worry about here. Should you need some extra healing, don’t forget that Valere’s Lunar Shield has minimal healing and can make it so it blocks one attack
After the battle is over, you will be able to leave Autumn Hills, triggering a long cutscene. From there, you will be brought back to the world map and be able to head to your next destination, Songshroom Marsh.
