Once you manage to make it to the final dungeon, you will unlock a bunch of optional content in Sea of Stars. One of these side quests involves The Queen That Was, which is related to Serai. This page will walk you through how to find The Queen That Was, as well as how to defeat the Gun Goddess.
How to Find The Queen That Was in Sea of Stars¶
Before you can even think about doing this side quest, you will need to have defeated the Dweller of Dread. When you have, go to any campfire and set up camp, then speak to Serai. She will give you an artifact, called Joce’s Belt Buckle, and ask you to have Teaks look at it. Do just that and listen to The Cerulean Expedition. You will see some directions in that story, from three different explorers, which are as follows:
- Brochu: Northeast, Southeast, South, Northwest
- Elbi: Southwest, South, Southwest, East
- Joce: North, East, Northeast, South
As the story continues, they talk about how each person’s journey “felt right” on certain days. Brochu was good on the first two days, then Elbi was good on the fourth day, and Joce was fine on the third day. You will basically be taking the directions from those people’s expeditions, on those days. So, with that little puzzle out of the way, you will be going Northeast, Southeast, Northeast, and East. Do this in the Cerulean Expanse, ignoring the drone that beeps, as those are just fights, until you reach a Speedball fast travel spot.
Where to Find the Artful Gambit Relic in Sea of Stars¶
Once you’re in the new area, head north, and open the chest on the right side for the Artful Gambit Relic. This thing is basically the hard mode of the game, as your HP is reduced by 95%, which also includes HP gained from other items. Timed Blocks reduce damage taken to 1, while timed hits is doubled. Additionally, whenever the enemies are doing their casting (with the Locks), they don’t take any damage at all. A little further north is some stairs and to the left of them is another chest, which contains a Rainbow Conch.
To the right of the stairs is a campfire and save point. Make sure you rest, cook some good food, and save your game. As soon as you walk up those stairs, you will be thrown into the boss battle with the Gun Goddess.
How to Beat the Gun Goddess in Sea of Stars¶
The Gun Goddess can be a challenging fight, depending on what level your characters are at the point you get there. She has one attack that can instantly KO a character, and it has a lot of Locks, so you will need to be careful. The Bullets you see aren’t just for show, either, as you can target them and actually defeat them. This is good to do sometimes, as one of her special moves will use those Bullets to deal more damage. Don’t be afraid to go all out with combos and ultimates here, either.
All of Gun Goddess’ Attacks in Sea of Stars¶
Gun Goddess is a powerful boss that has a few powerful attacks. By far, the most dangerous one is the special with nine Locks, as this can one-shot KO any of your characters.
-
Pistol Whip: One of the two normal moves in her arsenal, the Gun Goddess will just smack you with her pistol. This does around 55 or so damage, when properly blocked.
-
Spray and Pray: The Gun Goddess will take both of her guns, then spray fire in a sweeping motion, hitting all of your characters for about 40-45 damage. The instance when she stops firing is when you want to hit a timed block. This move will respawn all of the Bullets.
-
Fan the Hammer: The special move with four Locks, the Gun Goddess loads all of the Bullets into the chamber of one gun and fires them at your party, randomly. The number of hits depends solely on the number of Bullets. Depending on how many times someone gets hit, they could take major, or even fatal, damage. If she has no Bullets, then this move does nothing. This move will respawn all of the Bullets.
-
The Shot: This is the big attack that will have a whopping nine Locks. The Gun Goddess will transform into a hand and a big pistol, then shoot one bullet at a character. If they get hit, they will be KO’ed. You will definitely want to break all of the Locks for this.
Strategy for the Gun Goddess Boss in Sea of Stars¶
The Gun Goddess can be a challenging fight, depending on when you do it. She can do a lot of damage to your characters with her attacks, especially Fan the Hammer, but that entirely depends on whether you go after the Bullets or not. It might be a good idea to do that, but the Bullets are fairly tanky, with high resistances and defenses. There’s also six Bullets, so if you spend all of your time on them, then you’re not going to be hitting the boss much. Of course, if you have attacks that deal damage to all enemies, then that works.
Also, the Bullets are all together, so even moves like Sunball work amazingly in this battle. Of course, the Spray and Pray move (the regular attack that hits your party) will respawn all of the Bullets each time it’s used, so it’s not really worth it to concentrate on them. The only attack of the Gun Goddess that uses the Bullets is Fan the Hammer, which can hurt a lot, but the attack hits randomly. You can stop Fan the Hammer, though, since it has Locks (only four), and you probably want to do that, if the Bullets are still around.
As for the other special move with Locks, The Shot will instantly KO the character it hits. This one has a massive nine Locks, though, but you usually get enough turns to break them all. Moves that can delay turns for the enemy will be great in this battle, since that gives you more time to break both of the special skills. It’s also a good idea to save your combo points for Mending Light, since it’s a great healing move. Don’t forget that you also have Resh’an’s ultimate (heals and delays), as well as his normal healing skill, and even food to keep you alive.
It’s a challenging fight, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. Once you down the Gun Goddess, you will receive Serai’s ultimate weapon, the Star Shards, as well as unlock the Better Off Dead trophy/achievement.
