Sea of Stars

Best Heroes to Use in Wheels in Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Wheels is a minigame in Sea of Stars, where you do battle against NPCs in a game of wits and maybe a little bit of RNG. You will first gain access to Wheels in the Port Town of Brisk, where you will eventually gain some figurines that allow you to play it. These figurines are used as Heroes in the minigame, with there being a total of six that you can eventually unlock. This page will focus on listing what each Hero does, as well as which ones are better suited for each challenge match.

There are six Heroes you will unlock over the course of the game.

Warrior Hero for Wheels

The Warrior Hero is great for dealing damage, to both the Crown and the Bulwark. As you level it up, you will see that both damage types will increase pretty high. However, the one problem it has is that the Warrior’s attack will always hit the Bulwark, no matter how high it is. Considering it’s one of the first two figurines you get, you don’t have a choice in whether to use it or not. However, once you get the Archer from the first Champion match, it’s probably for the best to just sideline the Warrior.

Mage Hero for Wheels

The Mage Hero is one of the two default figurines you will get, upon first unlocking access to the minigame. The Mage is definitely a fairly strong unit, since it has the ability to attack twice whenever it acts. The first hit with the Mage can be stopped by the Bulwark, but the second hit will always go over it. However, it does take a fair bit of energy for the Mage to act, so relying on it can prove a little troublesome, if your opponent is gaining an advantage over you.

Archer Hero for Wheels

The Archer Hero is a unit that is strong against the Crown, but not so hot against the Bulwark. You will unlock this unit by winning the Champion match in the Port Town of Brisk, meaning it can be the third one you get in the game. The Archer has a hidden ability that makes it fairly good, depending on the situation. Its attack isn’t along the ground, but actually in the air (like an actual bow and arrow). If the enemy’s Bulwark is at two or less, the Archer will directly attack the Crown; otherwise, it hits the Bulwark.

(1 of 2) The Archer is weak against the Bulwark, but can shoot above it at a certain height.

Priest Hero for Wheels

The Priest Hero is unlocked by winning against Yolande, on the Vespertine, which is your boat. Once you have access to it and can sail around, hold down the same button as when you initiate camp to go inside the ship. The Priest is a support unit and thus, isn’t going to be doing any damage at all. However, it can be important to use in matches, since it can heal your Crown. The best use for the Priest unit is for the energy it will send to your other Hero, upon it acting.

Engineer Hero for Wheels

You will be able to unlock the Engineer Hero by winning the Champion match at Lake Docarria. The Engineer unit is more of a defensive one, as it’s not going to do a lot of damage to the enemy’s Crown. However, if your enemy is putting up their Bulwark quite often, then the Engineer is going to do a lot of damage to that Bulwark. Also, whenever the Engineer acts, your own Bulwark will increase by two levels.

(1 of 2) The Priest can send energy to your other Hero, as well as heal your Crown.

Assassin Hero for Wheels

The Assassin Hero is unlocked upon doing the Champion match in Repine. However, you will need to do a little quest first before you’re able to play Wheels in that location. The Assassin is not your typical attacker, as its damage is very low. However, whenever it acts, the Assassin bypasses the Bulwark altogether and goes straight for the Crown. In addition to this, the Assassin will delay the opponent Hero that is closest to acting (least amount of energy needed).

So, looking at the above descriptions for each of the Heroes, you can see that some of them outclass the others. The Warrior isn’t bad, as it’s strong, but other than your first few matches, you can pretty much sideline it. The Mage and Archer are probably your best bets moving forward, with you possibly substituting in the Priest (replacing the Archer?), once you unlock it. The units you use are also dependent on what your opponent uses, too. If your opponent has a Warrior, then having an Engineer is great, since the Bulwark basically negates the Warrior completely.
