Bosslug Boss Guide in Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

As with any JRPG, you will encounter plenty of bosses during your adventure in Sea of Stars. The first real boss of the game will be the Bosslug, who you encounter in the Forbidden Cavern, which is essentially the first real dungeon of the game. This page will detail all of the moves the Bosslug has, as well as tips and tricks on how to defeat it.

Bosslug will be the first true boss of the game.

How to Beat the Bosslug in Sea of Stars

As the first real boss of the game, you may think the Bosslug will be a pushover, and while it’s not a super tough boss, being complacent can cause you a lot of trouble. First and foremost, you only have two characters in your party, and you are likely still getting a hang of the battle system. It’s important that you always keep an eye on your health at all times, as you never want to get caught with low enough health, that the boss will get a move to KO one of your characters.

All Bosslug’s Attacks in Sea of Stars

For now, let’s take a look at all of the attacks that Bosslug can use in this boss battle.

  • Sludge Spit: This is pretty much its basic attack. The Bosslug will spit some purple sludge at one of your characters. It’s probably the easiest attack for a Timed Dodge, as you just need to press the button right before the sludge hits. Note that later on in the fight, the boss will do this twice against a single character. Of course, you will need to time your button press to both attacks to receive minimal damage, but the timing still doesn’t change.

(1 of 4) The Sludge Spit will only hit a single character, but it will do it twice later in the battle.

  • Rock Drop: Bosslug will thrash around the arena, causing two boulders to drop from the ceiling, one on each character. This attack can hurt a lot, since it will likely be doing 15-18 damage to each character. The first rock will drop shortly after the boss returns to the center of the room, and the second one will come down after the first one has landed. As with most attacks, you will need to keep an eye on the rock, since it can be difficult to see it and get the timing for the block.

  • Acid Bug Bombs: This is the move that will occur whenever you see the locks appear on this boss. Thankfully, it’s not a move that does damage, but the Bosslug will summon some little purple bugs into the battle. As their name suggests, the Bossbugs will act independently from the boss and basically just do a normal attack, dealing around 10 damage to a single character. Their attack is pretty easy to time the block, too. At first, only two will be summoned, but as the battle goes on, the boss can summon up to four. They should go down with one timed hit, too, as they don’t have much health.

Strategy for Bosslug in Sea of Stars

As mentioned above, the primary cause for concern in this battle is keeping up with your health. Zale’s Healing Light is not great, as it only heals for like 15 or so, although you might get a little more out of it if you time the button press (right when the swirling ends). You should also have plenty of healing items, too, if you’ve used them sparingly prior to this fight. Likewise, you should also have the Combo move, Mending Light, as a backup, in case things get really bad. This Combo take two pips to use, too, so it should really be used in emergencies.

(1 of 3) The Bosslug seems to be weak to your elemental attacks,

It should be noted that timed hits/blocks shouldn’t really be necessary, as you aren’t doing a lot more damage/taking less damage with them. However, every little bit helps, though, so it’s a good idea to get the windows down for them. Don’t be afraid to use both characters’ skills here, especially Moonerang and Sunball, both of which can be quite damaging, if you get them powered correctly. When you’re running low on MP, just do regular attacks to try and replenish it. You will also need to keep the Bossbugs under control, should the boss summon them.

Since the locks appearing on the boss indicate he will summon them, there’s no threat of damage from that attack. There’s also a cooldown before the boss will get to attack again, so you will be able to get rid of the Bossbugs before they do their attack. Keeping in mind all of the things above, you will eventually fell the boss.

Enter the hole where the Bosslug came from to find two chests.

After the battle is over, you can head into the opening the boss came from to find two chests. One will contain 60 Gold and the other will hold an Adventurer’s Vest. Leave that room, climb the block on the right, then enter the next room. Before you venture north, you will want to head south, to the gap you couldn’t pass upon entering this dungeon. That’s because the device was broken on that side, but it’s not on this side, so interact with it to create the bridge, as a shortcut back to the beginning. You can now leave via the northern exit, which will take you to the world map. Your next destination will be the Mountain Trail, which you might remember from the opening bit of the game.
