Final Fantasy X HD Remaster

Wobbly Chocobo

By
Jarrod Garripoli

On the northern edge of the Calm Lands, there is a female NPC sitting on a chocobo. The first time you speak to her, she will ask you if you’re going to make the trek across this place on foot. There are a lot of wild chocobos on the plains, but they need training in order to be rideable. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have extra chocobos to ride, but is in the middle of training some. You will have the option to help her train some chocobos, which comes in the form of four little races. In order to get the ability to ride chocobos on the Calm Lands, you only need to finish the first one, but the final one will have a huge prize, the Sun Sigil for Tidus.

Wobbly Chocobo

The first race is nothing but a straight shot to the goal, with the time being 12.8 seconds or below. Unfortunately, the chocobo runs anything but straight, so things are not easy on you. While things get a tiny bit easier in later races, this is a good opportunity to learn the controls and understand how to get the chocobo to listen to your inputs somewhat. First and foremost, the chocobo will always run on its own, so you only have to control whether it moves left or right, which once you start doing these, will be a lot. You have a choice between using the directional pad or the analog stick, which is more of a preference, although some might say you get more of a response with the former.

(1 of 2) The first course is a straight shot to the end

The first course is a straight shot to the end (left), but the chocobo will steer itself whichever way it wants (right)

One thing you will never want to do, though, is hold either option above in a single direction. Tapping the direction is a lot better than holding a direction, as the chocobo can change its behavior in a snap of a finger. It may take a couple of tries in order to get the controls down, but this is definitely the easiest of the races. Note that you will pass even if you get a time of 12.8 seconds.

Your reward for beating this the first time is an Elixir. If you happen to tie or beat this record, then you will receive an X-Potion.
