Strategy

If anything, Fafnir has a set pattern it goes by for its attacks, making the battle very predictable. Fafnir’s first turn will be spent doing a physical attack on a party member with the lowest current HP. On its next three turns, it will use Triple Attack, which consists of a physical attack (not affected by Protect), then a breath that hits the entire party, and another physical attack (affect by Protect). The order in which it will do the breath attacks is ice, then fire, and the last one is lightning. Since you know the order of the breath attacks, you can simply cast the corresponding NulElement before it uses Triple Attack.

That just leaves the physical attacks, which can hurt a lot. Note that the physical attacks that are a part of Triple Attack cannot break the 9999 damage limit, but the one not a part of it can break the limit. Thankfully, Fafnir is susceptible to the various Breaks, although it is highly resistant to them. That means you will need Auron’s Banishing Blade Overdrive to inflict them, but if all you want is Armor Break (Fafnir is armored), then a Frag Grenade will also work. As long as you can survive the physical attacks, then this battle should be fairly easy.
