How to Complete the Health Steal Muspelheim Trial in God of War Ragnarok

The Health Steal Muspelheim trial is relatively simple, but it can get tough if you’re not careful. The objective may be a little confusing at first, but essentially what it means is that you will be taking constant damage over time for the duration of the trial, albeit a fairly small amount, but you will also recover health each time that you hit an enemy. You will also gain a more significant health burst after killing an enemy, so in the simplest of terms, the aim of the game here is to kill everything as quickly as possible to ensure that your health remains high and to avoid dying from the constant damage over time.

Time Limit Number of Enemies Enemy Types
N/A 22 Raiders, Wisps, Wights, Draugr, Grims, Nokken, Light Elves, Dark Elves

You will encounter a number of different enemies during this trial, most of which are weak and easily killed with a few melee combo attacks. The Raiders, Draugr, and Grims in particular should be easy to kill, and the Nokken are also weak, although slightly more evasive. You can find the Nokken by following the trail of green spores which they connect themselves to their allies with, and you can even hear them chanting so if you have an audio setup with decent imaging and soundstage, which provides a reliable method of tracking them down quickly. You should prioritize killing Nokken whenever they’re active, since they buff and heal their allies. The Wisps are also weak enemies, but you will need to hit them with arrows first to break their defences and make them vulnerable to melee attacks.

The trial becomes more difficult once you begin to see Light Elves, Dark Elves, and in particular Wights introduced to the fight. These have more health than the other enemy types, higher defences, and they will inflict more damage in general. It’s a good idea to reserve your Light and Heavy Runic attacks to use only when these enemies spawn, since the others can be killed quickly with a few melee combos. In addition, when you are just using melee combos, try using mostly light attacks if you’re losing too much health. This will allow you to executed each new strike more quickly, thereby increasing your health more rapidly. The Draupnir Spear is arguably the fastest weapon to use in this way, with the Blades of Chaos being a close second. the Leviathan Axe is more sluggish, but in reality you shouldn’t find yourself in a situation where you need to regenerate health that rapidly.

Aside from the general toughness of Wights, which require you to basically burn through their health with your most damaging attacks to deal with them quickly, the Light Elves are the only other enemy type which might cause you more trouble during this trial. In particular, you need to be ready to deal with their block stance, which initiates whenever you see the blue circle indicator. This means that any regular attack, whether light or heavy, will be absorbed by their shield stance. Instead, you’ll need to double tap DualSense-L1 to break through it and stagger them. You can also use most Light or Heavy Runic Attacks to break through this stance, but the shield ability is more reliable so long as you’re within melee range. You won’t be able to break the shield stance of an enemy if they’re too far away, so don’t bother using this at a distance.

Other than the points mentioned above, this trial should be one of the fastest and easiest for you to complete. It’s a good trial to choose for the combinations that you need to perform to unlock specific Muspelheim Challenges for this reason. You can read more about that on our How Muspelheim Trials and Challenges Work in GoWR page.

(1 of 4) The Wights are probably the roughest enemies during this trial. Kill them off quickly with Runic Attacks.
