How to Find the Western Barri Woods¶

During the main quest The Reckoning you’ll travel to Vanaheim, passing through The Southern Wilds, Freyr’s Camp, the Eastern Barri Woods and The Abandoned Village before reaching the Western Barri Woods.

There are only two collectibles in this region, one of which is a mandatory favor, Scent of Survival that you can’t complete until immediately after the main quest Creatures of Prophecy. The other is a Lore collectible you can find during the main quest The Reckoning. If you miss the Lore pickup, you won’t be able to return until the aforementioned main quest Creatures of Prophecy, which is quite a bit after your first visit.

After defeating the Nidhogg, night will turn into day, and you’ll be able to nab the Rune Read - Harmony.

Where to Find All Lore in the Western Barri Woods¶

Rune Read - Harmony¶

After defeating Nidhogg during the main quest The Reckoning, continue forward. You’ll have to clear some bramble using Freya’s Runic Arrows and the Blades of Chaos and defeat some Einherjar followed by some Wisps. Use Freya’s Runic Arrows and the Leviathan Axe to bypass some Scorn Poles and continue on until the sun comes up… rather abruptly. After Freya is done talking, continue along the linear path to the southwest, but keep your eye to the ring to find a Lore Marker. Examine it and you’ll gain the entry Harmony.

Scent of Survival¶

Complete the main quest Creatures of Prophecy and you’ll find yourself back in Freyr’s Camp. Exit via the western cavern and on your way out you’ll encounter the hound Helka, who has caught the scent of something interesting and seems to want you to follow. Follow the dog throughout Vanaheim and it’ll lead you to the Western Barri Woods (you’ll have to take a boat part of the way, and use a Celestial Altar to transition from night to day). Once you catch up to Helka and disembark on Freyr’s boat you’ll complete this favor, which counts as a collectible.
