God of War: Ragnarok

How to Make the Dragon Scaled Armor

By
Matt Chard

One of the best armors in God of War Ragnarok is the Dragon Scaled Armor. Obtained by defeating the various dragons in, and around the optional Crater areas in Vanaheim. This page will show you what Dragon Scales are used for, how to get them, and how many you need to obtain, and fully upgrade the Dragon Scaled Armor. You will need to craft each piece of the Dragon Scale armor set to unlock the Dragon Slayer trophy.

The Dragon Scaled Armor in all of its glory.

How to Find the Dragon Scaled Armor

To be able to start crafting the armor set, you’ll need to finish the story mission “Creatures of Prophecy”. This will unlock the optional area The Crater which hosts many sub-areas including, The Jungle, The Plains, and The Sinkholes. After completing the above story quest, you’ll find yourself back at Freyr’s camp. Once all the chatter is over with, take the west exit out of Freyr’s camp, and you’ll find a hound called Helka waiting for you. Atreus with his love for nature suggests that you follow the hound as it appears that it’s picked up a scent. This will start the Scent of Survival Favor which you’ll need to complete before you can start crafting the armor as it’ll lead you to The Crater.

Crafting the Dragon Scaled Armor

Now that you have access to The Crater, head over to The Plains sub-area to the west, and look for the Blacksmith Shop there. When you look at what you can craft, the Dragon Scaled Armor will be there. Here is what you need to craft the whole armor set:

Where to get Dragon Scaled Armor Materials

As you can see above, you’ll need quite a few materials in order to craft, and max out the Dragon Scaled Armor Set. If you’re wondering where you can get your hands on these materials, check the list below.

How to Get Dragon Tooth

You’ll find Dragon Tooth an easy resource to acquire as they are dropped by any fallen dragon, drake or dreki. You can find drakes, and dreki all over the nine realm including, but not limited to Vanaheim, and The Crater. Dragon’s on the other hand are a little harder to come by.

How to Get Dragon Claws

These are more difficult to find as these are more commonly dropped by dragons, although you can get them from drake, and dreki. The best way to get the 12 dragon claws that you need for the set is to complete all the Dragon Hunts in The Crater areas. There are seven hunts in total, but some of them have multiple drakes or dreki which should put you at, or at least near the 12 that you need. You can find the Dragons Hunts by completing their respective Favors which are:

  • Trail of the Dead (The Jungle)
  • What Lies Below (The Jungle)
  • Path of Destruction (The Jungle)
  • The Burning Skies (The Sinkholes)
  • Quaking Hollow (The Sinkholes)
  • For Vanaheim! (The Plains)
  • In the Dead of Night (The Plains)

How to Get Divine Ashes

This material is actually a currency, which can only be obtained by participating in The Crucible Trials in Muspelheim. Unfortunately there isn’t any other way of obtaining them. The best way for you to get them is by completing the first couple of trials from each challenge sword. You can find out more about The Crucible, and how to complete the trials here.

How to Get Purified Crystalline

These are a relatively easy resource to get your hands on. You get them by trading crystal fragments which are scattered throughout The Crater region to the Wishing Well. This can be reached from either The Jungle or The Sinkholes. Trading these fragments can net you some nice loot including, Hacksilver, Purified Crystalline, and other various goodies. The more you trade, the more you’ll get.

How to Get Smouldering Embers

Once again, the only place to get these rare resources is from the Muspelheim Trials in The Crucible. Thankfully, these can be repeated to your heart’s content, so you can find the one you find the easiest, and repeat that specific trial.

Best way to Get Hacksilver

A lot of The Crater Favors will yield a lot of Hacksilver, and if that isn’t enough, you can trade yellow crystal fragments to the Wishing Well for even more.

You can reach the Wishing Well from either The Jungle or The Sinkholes as the area loops around.
