Dragon's Dogma 2

How to kill a Lich

By
Echo Apsey

Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s world is filled with a variety of undead enemies. However, one of the rarer ones is the Lich, which isn’t too common prior to reaching The Unmoored World in the endgame. These spell-casting floating wizards can be a real pain to kill quickly. However, after fighting them a bunch in the endgame and killing the couple throughout the world in caves, we have put together a guide on the best ways to kill a Lich.

If you want to hunt one down, you can find all of them on the map on our interactive world map.

How to kill a Lich in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Some key tips for killing a Lich are:

  • Don’t spend too long fighting up-close
  • Be aware of its spells
  • Use ranged attacks where possible to stun it
  • Make use of high-damage abilities and classes
  • Don’t fight it near cliffs

By far the most important tips when taking on a Lich are to not spend too long fighting it up close and to keep an eye on the spells it casts. While you are able to deal the vast majority of damage up close, with melee attacks, it will often cast area-of-effect spells around itself as you are fighting it.

These can completely wipe out chunks of your health bar and potentially even kill you if you are under-levelled. They can also be difficult to see at night too. Pair that with the amount of particle effects and visual noise that can accumulate during these fights and it can easily be a huge issue.

The Lich’s spells aren’t always the easiest to see, so don’t hang around by its body for too long.

The best strategy is to attack it for a few seconds at a time with a few attacks or a combo and then back off so it can shoot a few spells and then recover, allowing you to get back in up close to it again. The only exception to this is if you see the Lich floating down to the ground, which usually means it is recovering or stunned. In these moments you can absolutely go crazy with attacks.

If you are looking to stun the Lich, then ranged attacks are by far your best option. If you aren’t an "Archer" iconArcher, "Sorcerer" iconSorcerer, or "Magick Archer" iconMagick Archer, then having a ranged pawn on your team can be invaluable in these fights.

Some other classes like the "Mystic Spearhand" iconMystic Spearhand can be used to propel yourself close to the Lich, which can also stun it. These high-damage advanced classes for the Arisen are great choices for taking down any Lich, as well as other large enemies and bosses.

The Mystic Spearhand, Warrior, and Warfarer can all do a crazy amount of damage to the Lich quickly.

Finally, another important tip when fighting a Lich is to fight it over a large field or flat bit of ground. Given it floats in the air, it can be easy to accidentally fall off a cliff or into a body of water when fighting a Lich after attacking. So, be sure to only fight it over solid ground.

If it does happen to float over some water, simply leave it be, dodge any spells, and wait for it to return to its original spawn location, or move over flat ground. You do not want to risk losing your pawns, gear, or a "Wakestone" iconWakestone when fighting them, especially at night.

That covers our tips for taking on the Lich in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Out of all the tough enemies, this isn’t a huge challenge. Thankfully, it doesn’t spam melee attacks and it won’t stun-lock you too often as it takes a lot of time to recover from casting its spells.
