Dragon's Dogma 2

Brothers Brave and Timid Walkthrough - Dragon's Dogma 2

By
Scott Peers

The Brothers Brave and Timid side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be acquired from an NPC named Ian, found in the small village of Melve. You’ll notice Ian wandering around the center of the village, saying things like “What am I to do? He really ought to have returned by now…” - he has long hair, a cloak, and a shield on his back, so he’s easy enough to distinguish from other NPCs. All you have to do is speak with him to begin the quest, and he’ll take it from there. On this page, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to complete this quest in time.

Speak with Ian in Melve to begin the Brothers Brave and Timid side quest.

Speak with Ian in Melve

The first thing you need to do in order to start this quest is to find and speak with Ian in Melve. As mentioned above, Ian is fairly easy to distinguish from the rest of the villagers since he can be found wandering around the village center with a round shield on his back, wearing a long cloak with long hair, while muttering about his brother being missing.

Once you’ve spoken with Ian, you’ll have the option to decline helping him, which we recommend doing if you’re not yet prepared, as noted above. You should also keep in mind that if you start this quest during the night, the road will be much more dangerous as nighttime-specific foes will have a high chance of spawning. If you want the easiest possible time, we recommend starting this quest during the day.

Follow Ian and Rescue Norbert from Wolves

After accepting Ian’s request for help, all you have to do is follow him along the road. There will be a few goblins along the way, but nothing you can’t handle. You’ll also stumble upon a campsite that Ian and his brother (Norbert) have used previously. Ian suggests using it, but you don’t need to if you’re already fully rested (and if you’ve recently rested to save the game already!). Instead, just follow the road over the bridge until you encounter Ian’s brother, Norbert, being attacked by wolves.

(1 of 2) Ian will suggest making camp along the way, but you only need to do this if it’s night time, to be safe.

Escort Ian and Norbert Back to Melve

The fight with the wolves should be easy enough, but keep in mind that there’s a small chance of other enemies joining the fight, such as goblins or even an ogre, so be ready to take on more than you might initially expect. We only had the wolves to fight, and chances are it’ll probably be the same for you. With the wolves dead, a brief conversation between Ian and Norbert will start, after which you can escort them back to Melve. As you arrive in the village, Ian will speak to you to conclude the quest, and you’ll get 1500 gold, 400 XP and a Homespun Cloak as a reward.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to a predecessor that gained a cult following for its quirky pawns and charming jank, not to mention the diverse combat options that came with access to several unique vocations. All of that and more is expanded upon with DD2, while some of the mechanics have been simplified to make them more accessible, but still retaining that unapologetic focus on rewarding exploration at the heart of its gameplay. You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. In this guide, we cover the following:
