If you approach the Ancient Battlefield from the east, you will stumble upon a man called Oskar under attack from wolves. If you spare him and accept a quest, you’ll then be on your way to escorting a man into the Ancient Battlefield castle. From here, you are to aid him on his travels and can get some cool rewards. Tolled To Rest Walkthrough

So, once you have saved the gentlemen on the road, you now need to walk into the Ancient Battlefield and follow the road towards the ruined castle. When you reach the castle entrance, be advised a mixture of skeleton warriors and mages will spawn. Clear it out and then proceed through the only access point, climbing the ladder and going down a ruined tower to reach behind the locked gate barring entry back to the main entrance.

Be advised more enemies spawn around the drop. Deal with the skeletons, unlock the shortcut, and then go through the remainder of the building. From there, follow the pathway up and around and you should come across the Cenotaph on the right-hand side. There will be a bell with a book called "Nation's Death Knell" iconNation’s Death Knell, along with a "Unique Chest" iconUnique Chest containing the "Makeshift Vault Key" iconMakeshift Vault Key.

Completing the Quest awards you 9000 G and the Ancient Battlefield Key.

Speak to Oskar, the NPC following you around, and he can ring the bell. You’ll then be awarded:

  • 9000 G
  • Ancient Battlefield Key

Ancient Battlefield Key Tips

Now that you have the Ancient Battlefield Key, you can leave the Cenotaph room and turn left. On the right-hand side of the wall you should find a locked door. Feel free to open it using your Ancient Battlefield Key you got from Oskar and access an otherwise unopenable door.

You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye.
