Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Unlock Mystic Spearhand Vocation - Dragon's Dogma 2

By
Scott Peers

The Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be unlocked fairly early on, but you need to trigger a dragon attack in Melve before it’s possible. The dragon attack may not occur at the same time for every player, but so long as you return to Melve regularly after visiting Vernworth, the capital city of Vermund, you should be able to trigger the dragon attack soon enough. During the attack, you’ll see an NPC named Sigurd (wielding a duospear) fighting the dragon alongside you, and after the fight, you can speak with him to learn the Mystic Spearhand vocation. If you happen to miss Sigurd at Melve, you’ll have another opportunity to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation when you visit Harve Village. On this page, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about unlocking this class, including the location of Harve Village and where to find Sigurd there.

The dragon attack in Melve provides the first opportunity to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation.

Repel the Dragon Attack in Melve

As mentioned above, the first opportunity you’ll have to unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation comes when you revisit Melve and repel a dragon attack. The dragon attack may not appear at the same time for each player, but it seems to unlock when you return to Melve after visiting Vernworth, the capital city of Vermund, for the first time. At this point, you can go to the northeast part of Vernworth to find an oxcart carrier service, then use it to fast travel back to Melve. In our case, we first completed the House of the Blue Sunbright quest, which can be acquired in the slums once you’ve completed The Gift of Giving, to the point where you need to rescue Sebastian on the road to Melve. However, nothing is stopping you from visiting Melve before that to see if the dragon attack triggers sooner.

Whatever the scenario ends up being for when you trigger the dragon attack in Melve, the fight is mostly scripted so that you can’t die during it. You’ll need to take a few chunks of health out of the dragon before it flees, and you’ll see the person you need to speak to – Sigurd – fighting alongside you. He’s easily distinguishable since he’s wearing a cloak and wielding a duospear, capable of casting a bubble of invulnerability spell (which you’ll later learn is the Mirour Vesture skill) that can protect himself and a few allies from all damage.

(1 of 2) Sigurd will be highlighted briefly in the cutscene before the dragon attack.

Speak with Sigurd to Learn the Mystic Spearhand Vocation

After the fight with the dragon, all you need to do is approach Sigurd and speak with him. He’ll explain that he’s using a patchwork of techniques for his fighting style, honed for the sole purpose of slaying dragons. You won’t need to undergo any trials or quests, just end the conversation once you’ve asked him about his manner of fighting, and you’ll immediately learn the Mystic Spearhand vocation. You can now go to any Vocation Guild master and unlock the vocation to start leveling it up!

Where to Find Sigurd in Harve Village

If you missed speaking with Sigurd at Melve, you’ll have another opportunity to find and speak with him at Harve Village. This small village is connected to the Monster Culling main quest, so you’ll go here as part of the main story. However, Sigurd can only be found there once you’ve completed the Monster Culling and Scaly Invaders quest, so you’ll need to do those first.

Visit the Coastal Hut in Harve Village

Once you’ve completed Monster Culling and Scaly Invaders, the residents of Harve Village will inform you that they’ll get started with rebuilding it. You may need to rest for a few nights before you see a change in the village, but once you do, you can go to the Coastal Hut, located on a hilltop on its eastern side, where you’ll find Sigurd inside. All you need to do is speak with him here to unlock the vocation, in the same way that you would have in Melve.

(1 of 3) Harve Village is located on the coast, southwest of Vernworth.

And there you have it – two relatively early methods for unlocking the Mystic Spearhand vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The vocation has one of the best damage outputs for any melee class, but it can take a while to get going, so it’s worth leveling through a few ranks before you can compare it properly to others. One of the most overpowered features comes in the form of the Mirour Vesture skill, which allows you to cast a bubble of invulnerability around yourself and any nearby allies. This can be used in a way that makes it feel slightly overpowered, but if you want to maintain the bubble, you’ll be sacrificing some damage of your own in order to balance stamina use/recovery, since it uses quite a lot with each cast.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to a predecessor that gained a cult following for its quirky pawns and charming jank, not to mention the diverse combat options that came with access to several unique vocations. All of that and more is expanded upon with DD2, while some of the mechanics have been simplified to make them more accessible, but still retaining that unapologetic focus on rewarding exploration at the heart of its gameplay. You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. In this guide, we cover the following:
