Dragon's Dogma 2

A Case of Sculptor's Block Walkthrough

By
Scott Peers

The "A Case of Sculptor's Block" iconA Case of Sculptor’s Block quest in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2 can be started in "Vernworth" iconVernworth, the capital of Vermund, by speaking with a man named Klark in the Noble Quarter. You’ll find Klark outside his estate ("Klark's Estate" iconKlark’s Estate) in the southwest part of the Noble Quarter, just north of the "Rose Chateau Bordelrie" iconRose Chateau Bordelrie. Klark will let you know that he’s awaiting the arrival of a prized centerpiece for his sculpture collection, and he asks you to check in on the craftsman (named Fulvio) in "Bakbattahl" iconBakbattahl. You may not have access to the Battahl region when you first encounter this quest, but there’s no rush to complete it, so you can wait until you get there naturally. On this page, we’ll show you how to help Fulvio sculpt the "Griffin" iconGriffin by extending the fight, giving you the best outcome for the quest when you return to Kark in Vernworth.

Where to Find Klark in Vernworth

As mentioned above, to start this quest you’ll need to speak with Klark in Vernworth. You’ll find him just outside of his estate, in the southwestern part of the Noble Quarter, as shown below.

Location of Fulvio in Bakbattahl

So long as you have the quest when you first reach Bakbattahl, you should see the location of "Fulvio's Workshop" iconFulvio’s Workshop on your map. However, if you’re not sure where to go, you can check the screenshot below. You’ll find it just south of the Residential Ward.

Where to Find the Griffin for Fulvio

After the initial conversation with Fulvio, you’ll need to rest for at least one day, then find him at the meeting place near the Griffin’s nest. This location isn’t actually marked on the map, but you can find it just north of the "Reverent Shrine" iconReverent Shrine in the northern part of Battahl. You’ll find Fulvio on the road here, and the Griffin’s nest (known as the Wasteland Griffin’s Nest) further up the road to the east.

How to Extend the Battle with the Griffin

Once you reach the Griffin nest with Fulvio, you’ll need to be aware of a few things. First, you need to keep the Griffin away from Fulvio throughout the fight. He can easily die with just a few hits, so whenever you see the Griffin approaching him, try to draw its attention away, either by moving away yourself or commanding your pawns to come to you with the “To me!” command.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that it’s possible to kill the Griffin too quickly, before Fulvio has had enough time to make his sketch. The easiest way to do this is by dismissing both optional pawns so it’s just you and your main pawn, and preferably make your main pawn a "Mage" iconMage so that they can heal you through the fight. The aim here isn’t necessarily to defeat the Griffin, but to keep fighting it until Fulvio states that he’s completed his sketch.

(1 of 2) You need to extend the fight with the Griffin for as long as possible, before you kill it or it flies away.

You need to extend the fight with the Griffin for as long as possible, before you kill it or it flies away. (left), You’ll find some extra gold and gems that can be looted from the Griffin’s nest. (right)

There is a risk when using this method, however, since the Griffin can fly off at any time. The Griffin is most likely to fly off if it’s clearly losing the fight, so the chances of this happening with only you and your main pawn in the party are low, especially if you intentionally inflict as little damage as possible while keeping it away from Fulvio. It’s entirely possible to complete the quest this way, but you may want to save at an inn before you meet Fulvio at the Griffin’s nest, just in case you fail, so that you can reload without losing too much progress.

How to Know When Fulvio Has Completed His Sketch

If you keep fighting the Griffin for as long as possible, and if it doesn’t fly off, Fulvio won’t say much of anything. However, if you eventually force it to fly or kill it first, Fulvio will say one of two things. If you gave him enough time, he’ll say the following:

  • “’Tis done! With this sketch, I will doubtless be able to chisel a fine Griffin!“

If you didn’t give Fulvio enough time, he’ll say this instead:

  • “I suppose that will have to do. I’ll have to use my imagination for the finer details…”

If you hear the second line and you want to get the best outcome for the quest, you’ll need to reload your last save at an inn and try again. The fight with the Griffin will have to last longer for Fulvio to get his sketch done.

Use a Medusa Head to Freeze the Griffin

If you’d rather not leave things to chance, there’s a more reliable way to ensure that Fulvio gets the best sketch of the Griffin, and that involves using a "Medusa" iconMedusa head to turn it to stone. However, the fight with Medusa can be a tough one, so you might need to wait a while before you can finish this quest. If you’re looking for a guide to the Medusa fight, including where to find it, see our pages on Where To Find Medusa and How To Beat And Decapitate Medusa.

Mystic Spearhand - Mirour Vesture

If you’re struggling to stay alive during the fight with the Griffin, while ensuring that Fulvio has enough time, there’s a fairly easy way to do this so long as you have the "Mystic Spearhand" iconMystic Spearhand vocation unlocked. This vocation has a skill called "Mirour Vesture" iconMirour Vesture, which you can use to cast a bubble of invulnerability around yourself and any allies in the area. If you cast this on yourself, you’ll become immune to all damage (including knockbacks) for the duration, and the best part is that you can spam it repeatedly. So, in effect, you can make yourself and all allies in the vicinity (including Fulvio) invulnerable to damage for as long as you need to.

Attend the Unveiling at Klark’s Estate

Regardless of the outcome of the Griffin fight, the next objective will be for you to wait a few days while Fulvio completes his sketch. You can then go back to Klark’s Estate in Vernworth to meet both Fulvio and Klark for the official unveiling of the sculpture. If you gave Fulvio enough time to make the best version, you’ll get 4500 XP and 14000 Gold as a reward. However, if Klark is less than satisfied, you’ll only get 7000 Gold.
