Dragon's Dogma 2

Standard vs Deluxe Edition

By
Echo Apsey

Thankfully, Capcom isn’t known for offering tons of editions of its games, but even with Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s two editions, you may be wondering which one to buy. It isn’t always clear what is different between editions of the game, or how valuable some of the items you get with the more expensive edition are.

Well, let us give you all the information you need to know before you make that purchase, with a guide on the differences between the Standard and Deluxe Editions of Dragon’s Dogma 2, as well as if you should buy the Deluxe Edition or not.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Standard vs Deluxe Edition

The differences between the standard and deluxe editions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 are:

Bonus/Item Included in Standard Edition Included in Deluxe Edition Edition
Full Game Yes Yes
Superior Weapons Quartet (Pre-Order Bonus) Yes Yes
Ring of Assurance (Pre-Order Bonus) No Yes
Explorer’s Camping Kit (In-Game Item) No Yes
1500 Rift Crystals (In-Game Item) No Yes
Dragon’s Dogma Music and Sound Collection (In-Game Item) No Yes
Wakestone (In-Game Item) No Yes
Art of Metamorphosis (In-Game Item) No Yes
Harpysnare Smoke Beacons (In-Game Item) No Yes
Ambivalent Rift Incense (In-Game Item) No Yes
Heartfelt Pendant (In-Game Item) No Yes
Makeshift Gaol Key (In-Game Item) No Yes

As you can see, with the Deluxe Edition you do get quite a lot of extra items. However, all of these, bar the Music and Sound Collection can be found in the game. You just simply get one from early on instead of needing to find them yourself. The Music and Sound Collection might be a selling point for some longtime fans, as it allows you to change the music and some sound effects to the original Dragon’s Dogma theme.

But, given there are only two editions to buy digitally, there aren’t too many options to overwhelm you. The Deluxe Edition also only costs $10 or £10 more than the basic edition of the game.

Is the Deluxe Edition of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 worth it?

Overall, we don’t think the Deluxe Edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is worth it for most players. The items and bonuses on offer aren’t anything game-changing or that will give you a huge power boost in the game. They will simply make your experience a little bit easier initially. If you are a hardcore fan of the first game, you may want to grab this edition though simply for the Music and Sound Collection in-game item.

Both Editions can be pre-ordered digitally, whereas the only retail version of the game is the standard edition.

If you are still on the fence about grabbing the game, why not take a look at what to expect from the RPG in some of our other guides? Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to a predecessor that gained a cult following for its quirky pawns and charming jank, not to mention the diverse combat options that came with access to several unique vocations. All of that and more is expanded upon with DD2, while some of the mechanics have been simplified to make them more accessible, but still retaining that unapologetic focus on rewarding exploration at the heart of its gameplay. You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. In this guide, we cover the following:
