A myriad of new things has opened up now. You can leave Akademeia freely, breed chocobos, complete more tasks than you have time, and the Altocrystarium and Arena are now open.

The Altocrystarium

With this unlocked, you can now upgrade your spells using the Phantoma that you have so diligently collected thus far. Feel free to upgrade if you have the required Phantoma unless you specifically wish to save it for something else.

There is a down side to upgrading in that it increases the MP Cost of a spell. You can upgrade the “MP Cost” trait but this will lower a random trait as a result.

Visit the Altocrystarium often to offload your Phantoma. If you have a stock of 99 already, any more collected after that will be wasted so don’t hoard it. For visiting the Altocrystarium the first time, you will be given the Thunder-RF spell.

Once you visit the Altocrystarium, you can access it from any Relic Terminal. Here you can upgrade Magic in a variety of ways.

Breeding Chocobos

There is an in-depth guide to chocobo breeding in the Side Quest section of the guide. However, a brief explanation is in order.

If you visit the Chocobo Ranch and speak to Hishow on the right of the stable, he can breed any two chocobos you own, provided one is male and the other is female of course. The type of chocobo and the type of Greens used affects what kind of chocobos are born.

Visit every six hours of Free Time to breed and check any chickabos that may have been born. Kweh!

You can select what type of chocobos to breed and with what Greens. Different combinations yield different chocobo types.

The Arena

A great feature, the Arena allows one character to enter Secret Training to gain EXP while you’re away from the game. The longer you don’t play, the more EXP that character will gain. Remember to always put a character in Secret Training if you can to get the most out of characters you may otherwise not use much.

You can also participate in the Combat Simulation against Troopers and Supersoldiers. This acts like a proper battle and you can even earn Phantoma from the defeated enemies. The Arena is located to the west of the Fountain Courtyard.

The Arena is very useful for training your squad when you aren’t playing via Secret Training (left) or for farming Phantoma and testing skills in Combat Simulation (right).

(Optional) Collecting SPP and Corsi Cave Grinding

You now have the option to replay any Missions already completed and this time, a good idea is to play with Support Personnel enabled. You can get a task from the Administration Official to gain 100 SPP and it’s well worth completing because you can purchase some stronger weapons, as well as earn more rewards from completing Missions with an S-Rank. If you’re struggling on a Mission, replaying previous ones is a great idea so you can level up a little more.

If you’re prepared to grind a little bit for the SPP, purchase the SPP weapons from the SPP Merchant in the Central Command. You can then head on over to Corsi Cave and complete some tasks for plenty of EXP and some nice rewards. See the Side Quests section for full details. This will stand you in good stead for the next Mission.

You can replay missions for the SPP task. Choose a mission from the title screen menu and then to allow SP support when asked. Periodically through the mission, SP members will replace your party members (not your leader).

In an act of unprovoked aggression, the Militesi Empire invaded the Dominion of Rubrum. Imperial dreadnoughts swarmed the skies, assailing the unsuspecting countryside under the banner of the White Tiger. From amidst the flames of the besieged dominion, the Vermilion Bird rose in defiance, her crystal granting magic and mighty eidolons that her disciples might cast out the technologically advanced aggressors. Thrust into the tumult of war, the fate of the world and its four crystals now rests on the shoulders of fourteen brave, young warriors.
