Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

Phantoma

By

&
Jarrod Garripoli

Phantoma is something akin to life force in Type-0, as without it, there would be no magic. Every living thing in the world of Type-0 has Phantoma, which the player can extract from fallen foes. This is done by depleting all of their HP, then locking onto their dead body and hitting the regular attack button, which should read as “Harvest Phantoma.”

As you progress through the game, you’ll find that Phantoma is used to strengthen your magic spells at the Altocystarium. You will be able to access this area via a portal in the Hallway that leads to Classroom Zero, but you’ll also be able to visit it from any save point.

You can harvest Phantoma from every enemy you defeat (left). Different colors depend on how you kill them or what type they are. This can then be used to upgrade magic (right).

Upon harvesting a Phantoma, a small amount of MP will be restored to the character who collects it, with red/blue/yellow restoring 8 MP, green restoring 12 MP and purple Phantoma restoring 30 MP. The kind of Phantoma you receive from a defeated enemy depends on a few factors, such as what kind of enemy they are and how you kill them.

Enemies fall into one of any number of the following categories, which makes up the kind of Phantoma they drop. How you kill them also contributes, like with a regular attack, Killsight or with an elemental attack. For example, it’s possible to get two different Phantoma from the same enemy, if you kill one with a Killsight and another with a normal attack.

Generic Enemy

Generic Enemies consist of such foes as soldiers, Coeurls, Behemoths and more. Generally speaking, if the enemy does not have an elemental affinity or fall into one of the other categories, then it falls into this one. There are five tiers in this group.

Fire-Type Enemy

This should be pretty obvious, but this includes any enemies that are inherently fire elemental, like Bombs and Flans. There are four tiers in this group.

Ivory - 0.4% Ivory - 2.0%

High-Level Enemy

It’s not exactly known what constitutes a high-level enemy, since they have their own set of Phantoma drops, but it’s possible that the ones in the Tower of Agito might count as some. There are four tiers in this group.

Other Killsight Fire Attack Ice Attack Lightning Attack
Green - 52.9% Magenta - 29.4% Magenta - 78.5% Cyan - 78.5% Sepia - 78.5%
Red - 15.7% Cyan - 29.4% Purple - 13.7% Purple - 13.7% Purple - 13.7%

Yellow - 15.7% Ivory - 11.8% Ivory - 2.0% Ivory - 2.0% Ivory - 2.0%

Arena Enemy

These are the enemies you encounter in the Arena in Akademeia. There are three tiers in this group.

Other Killsight Fire Attack Ice Attack Lightning Attack
White - 100% White - 52.9% White - 52.9% White - 52.9% White - 52.9%
-- Green - 47.1% Red - 47.1% Blue - 47.1% Yellow - 47.1%

Endless Spawn

These can include any enemy that endlessly spawns in any given area. As you will see below, if all you’re getting is White Phantoma, then the enemies will not stop coming. If you’re getting other kinds of Phantoma, then chances are the room/area has a finite set of enemies.

Other Killsight Fire Attack Ice Attack Lightning Attack

In an act of unprovoked aggression, the Militesi Empire invaded the Dominion of Rubrum. Imperial dreadnoughts swarmed the skies, assailing the unsuspecting countryside under the banner of the White Tiger. From amidst the flames of the besieged dominion, the Vermilion Bird rose in defiance, her crystal granting magic and mighty eidolons that her disciples might cast out the technologically advanced aggressors. Thrust into the tumult of war, the fate of the world and its four crystals now rests on the shoulders of fourteen brave, young warriors.
