Nia is your childhood best friend in My Time at Sandrock, who writes to you throughout the game. Despite living in Highwind still, she eventually moves to Sandrock, and you can romance her once she’s settled in. Nia isn’t a picky character, having one of the longest lists of likes in the game. The guide below goes over where to find Nia, how to romance her, and what gifts she likes and loves.
Nia moves to Sandrock during the games third and final act.
Where to Find Nia¶
Nia is a character that is present from the start of the game, but only through letters. Nia will send you several letters in the mail as the events of Sandrock progress. You can choose to reply to these letters to get Friendship Points with her. She won’t be permanently present in Sandrock until the game’s third act though. At this point, she will move into the apartments behind City Hall. If she’s not in her room, then you can usually find her walking around near the center of town. Nia is a transplant from Highwind, much like the builder, and does not have a social network.
How to Romance Nia¶
Nia will gain friendship points when you reply to her letters and will come to town in the third act already at the friend status. Before this, she will visit town for a few days after Trudy returns and ask the builder to show her around. During the visit, you can speak with her and earn extra points by choosing the dialogue options with a heart beside them. Once she moves to town, you can begin earning points normally. This can be done by speaking with Nia each day, giving her gifts, sparring with her, and going on Play Dates. Sadly, Nia doesn’t play Critters and won’t post commissions.
Nia can’t be romanced right away, though, as you must first revive the Mother Tree. After this, you will need to complete her friendship missions, Mi-ni Botanica and Wiggle Room. Upon completion of these tasks, you can give Nia a Heart Knot. This can be purchased from the General Store for around 128 Gols. Nia should accept your feelings, unlocking the option to go on dates with her and have some romantic interactions. Once you reach the three heart level or 900 points, you can propose to Nia. This is done by buying the Engagement Ring from the Mysterious Man on the 20th or 21st of the month for 2,000 Gols and gifting it to Nia.
Best Gifts to Give Nia¶
Nia has the most likes out of any character in the game but only has four loves. Her likes consist mostly of weapons and clothing, while her loves are romance and job based. Luckily, most other items will still get you a decent number of points, as she is also one of the few characters with a list of special neutrals. The only items that Nia doesn’t like are trash, manure, and the different types of scrap that you can collect in the game. The table below goes over every item that Nia loves and likes.
Gift Level | Gifts |
---|---|
Love | Concentrated Algae Apparatus, Heart Blossom, Sand Jujube Cake, Sweetheart Cake |
Like | Action Boots, Action Bottoms, Action Helmet, Action Team Shirt, Adventurer Boots, Adventurer Cloak, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Nia is extremely easy to give gifts to, as the list of likes is seemingly non-ending. Our best advice is to pick a few easy-to-make items from this list that you already have the materials for and mass-produce them for gifting. Her loves are a lot shorter, with the Concentrated Algae Apparatus being her most loved gift worth 20 Friendship Points. This item can be made at your Assembly Station. If you want an easy loved gift, then you can purchase the Sweetheart Cake from the Mysterious Man for 6,400 Gols if you have some extra money. The Sweetheart Cake is worth ten Friendship Points, so it may not be worth the money for many players.
Nia Player Gifts¶
Since Nia arrives late to town and is already at the Friendship level, she won’t send any gifts in the mail. This is true of Logan as well, as he is another late-game character who enters Sandrock with affection towards the player.
