Burgess is a good-natured member of the Sandrock community who watches over the water supply. He can be found managing the water store or wandering around town checking on the trees. Burgess enjoys gifts that are easy to obtain, and has several ways to speed up the friendship process. The guide below goes over where to find Burgess, how to romance him, and what gifts he likes and loves.
Where to Find Burgess¶
Burgess is a member of the Church of the Light but moves around more than his friends. He managers the water for town and can often be found around the water tower and the oasis. Additionally, he sometimes practices with his sword outside the church alongside Pen. If he’s not at either of those places, then he is walking around the area near your workshop. Burgess has a large social network consisting of the four church members, Pen, Matilda, Miguel, and Dan-bi. When you become close with these characters, Burgess will also get Friendship Points. In addition, you can also donate to the Church of the Light each day for additional points, the amount you get for each donation level is listed below.
- 20 Gols: +2 Relationship Points with All Church Members.
- 200 Gols: +5 Relationship Points with All Church Members.
- 2000 Gols: +20 Relationship Points with All Church Members.
Since Burgess moves around, you will likely need to make an extra trip to donate each day. The church does have a sermon on the Blue Moon Saloon each week, so take advantage of this when you can.
How to Romance Burgess¶
Burgess is a character that you can romance from the start of the game. To do this, speak with him once every day, give him gifts he likes, spar, do commissions for him, play Critters, and go on Play Dates when they become available. Once you reach 400 points or three hearts, you can buy a Heart Knot for 120 Gols at the General Store. Gift this to Burgess to become his partner but be aware that he may reject your proposal. If he does, just keep trying each day until he accepts.
When you start a relationship with Burgess, the ability to go on Dates with him will unlock. Doing this will help you earn Friendship Points much faster. Once you reach three hearts or 900 points, you can propose to Burgess using an Engagement Ring. This can be purchased from the Mysterious Man on the 20th and 21st of each month for 2,000 Gols. At around the 50-hour mark of the main story, you will uncover the true antagonists behind Sandrock’s problems. Matilda, Pen, and Miguel are three of the five Church of the Light members caught up in the scheme. While this will push Burgess to do sermons, it won’t affect your relationship status. Additionally, you can help Burgess confront Pen for his bullying while he’s in jail. Doing so and supporting him will get you extra Friendship Points with Burgess.
