My Time at Sandrock

How to Make a Furnace

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on how to build a furnace in My Time at Sandrock.

The Furnace can be used to make metal bars and other materials.

You’ll learn how to make a furnace during the main story quest. You’ll be asked to make one for the first time during the Picking Up the Slack quest where you build a Crane Lift for Rocky.

Materials Required to Build a Furnace

To make a furnace, you’ll need x2 Stone Troughs, x2 Wooden Sticks and x4 Quartz. Details on how to obtain these items can be found below.

In total you’ll need the following amount of resources to craft all separate items:

  • 4 Quartz Item_Drop_Quartz.png
  • 6 Wood Item_Drop_Wood_0.png or Wood Scraps Item_WoodWaste_py.png (Wood Sticks are a random drop)
  • 12 Stone

How to Get Wooden Sticks

Wooden Sticks can be obtained in a couple of different ways. The easiest and most reliable way to get wooden sticks is to collect lots of wood from bushes and wooden scrap piles and then craft Wooden Sticks at the worktable. It costs 6 wood to make one Wooden Stick at the worktable, so you’ll need 12 wood in total.

Yakthorn bushes are great for collecting wood.

Alternatively, if you have some wood scraps, you can put them in the Recycler. When wood scraps are put in the Recycler, they have a chance of being recycled into dregs, wood or even wooden sticks! Wooden Sticks seem to be a bit of a rarer drop but if you have lots of wood scraps obtain from wood scrap piles then you might have a decent chance of getting the 2 you need.

Wood scraps can be recycled into dregs, wood or wood sticks.

How to Get Quartz

In the early game, quartz can be obtained by mining gravel rocks found nearby your workshop. Later, when you have a stronger pickhammer, you can also obtain it from hard rocks too. And when you have an ore refinery, you can make some in that as well.

Quartz can be obtained from Gravel.

How to Make a Stone Trough

A Stone Trough can be crafted at the worktable. You’ll need 2 stone troughs for the Furnace, so you’ll need double the materials - 12 Stone in total. As outlined above, stone can be collected from stone piles, by mining gravel or you could put Stone Scraps through the Recycler. You could even buy some from the Commerce Guild if you have the Gols.

The Stone Trough is crafted on the worktable.

How to Use a Furnace

Furnaces can be used to smelt metal bars from ores, as well as make glass, ceramic bottles and bricks! You’ll use your furnace to make a lot of metal bars so you’ll probably want more than one of them eventually!

Use the furnace to craft more complex items for your builds!

To power the Furnace, you’ll need to have both a fuel source and enough water. Fuel is a pretty easy one: you can use Dregs (a common material found in scrap piles), wood or power stones. As long as you’re always collecting materials, you shouldn’t have too much of an issue powering your machinery.

Water, on the other hand, can be a bit of an issue since this game is all about water conservation. You’ll sometimes find that your water tank is empty, and you’ll need to fill it with some more water barrels. These can be purchased at Water World near the reservoir, or you could also collect enough Dew to make your own barrels. You can learn more about how to get more water from our guide!
