Gore Magala’s two rage mode phases

Gore Magala in the game universe has no classification. I guess nobody knows where to put it, and I wouldn’t blame them either. Gore Magala is a juvenile Shagaru Magala and as such is cloaked in darkness. When it matures, it will molt dramatically, its black scales shattering and falling away revealing a beautiful golden skin.

Well, that’s enough of that, we’re here to talk about Gore Magala, aren’t we? Gore Magala has two unique rage mode phases. The first is pretty standard, but the second is when the sky darkens and things start getting real. The second rage mode is also the only time you can break Gore Magala’s feelers , two horns that will become erect and are kept down any time else. Gore Magala Feelers is a material needed for many armor and weapon craft and upgrades.

After a fixed amount of damage is dealt, Gore Magala will be toppled and will immediately exit rage mode, making the feelers inaccessible again. So if you’re aiming for those feelers, concentrate the bulk of the damage on its head.

Gore Magala also has its own special frenzy virus that was a major player in Monster Hunter 4 , its debut game. In this game, it’s relegated to a status that can affect you. Once the frenzy virus touches you (unavoidable), a bluish purple bar will begin to fill. If it fills, your heath recovery time is greatly lengthened and on top of that your defense is completley shot. But if you dish out enough damage to Gore Magala or another monster before that happens, you experience a boost in weapon affinity and immunity to the virus (both are very temporary). You will be infected with the virus multiple times when fighting a Gore Magala so keep the damage up and you’ll be fine. Nulberries can drop the bar’s charge, but cannot cure frenzy virus.

Gore Magala is weak to fire, thunder, and dragon.

Attack Explanation
Charge Gore Magala can do the classic running charge to bowl you over
Darkness Breath Gore Magala will spit out three balls of…darkness? Similar to Rathalos and Rathian they go in different directions and will infect you with frenzy virus.
Twisting Tail Whip Gore Magala will jump to immediately face the opposite direction and whip its tail behind it to try and catch you. Easy to dodge if you stay right under it.
Stomp Gore Magala will use its giant wing arm (wingarms?) by rearing back and then stomping down. Rage mode only
Air Darkness Breath Sometimes Gore Magala will fly up into the air so that it’s hovering above the ground. Then it’ll spit out a ball of “darkness”.
Air Shadow Wave When up in the air, Gore Magala will swing its head from left to right (its left and right), all the while emitting a cloud of “darkness”.
Flying Charge Instead of landing the simple way, Gore Magala will charge at you from the air and then land heavily on the ground.
Two-Step Charge Gore Magala will do a short charge twice in a row. When in second rage mode, Gore Magala will do the same thing but stomping down with its wingarms.
Wingarm Grab When in second rage mode, Gore Magala will reach out to try and knock you over with one of its wings.
