Yian Garuga is the final Bird Wyvern of this section, but last is certainly not least and for those unprepared, Yian Garuga will prove to be a nasty surprise. Its unique battle theme should clue you in to its special status. Unlike its close relative the Yian Kut-Ku, Yian Garuga seems to have learned quite a few moves, and acquired the temperament, of a Rathian. Yian Garuga is capable of kicking, spewing fire balls, charging, using its wings to produce a sonic sound akin to a roar, and can even backflip. As if that weren’t enough, Yian Garuga’s tail is poisonous and any attack it does where its tail collides with you will poison you (Rathian by comparison cannot poison you with her double 180 tailswing, for example).

Yian Garuga loves to play with fire, similar to Yian Kut-Ku, but it’s quite a bit better at it than poor little Ku-Ku. It has also mastered the art of using its beak to increase its attack range beyond what you will probably be used to. If you see Yian Garuga beginning to dive bomb its head into the ground, you should probably run.

Pitfall Traps will not work on Yian Garuga, it will not be entrapped by them due to its intelligence! Yian Garuga is weakest to Water element attacks.

Attack Explanation
Side Chomp Yian Garuga will lunge forward a little bit and snap to its left. Easy to dodge, but its tail will swing up a little and can knock you on your butt and poison you!
Triple Peck Yian Garuga will charge at you and then peck at the ground. If tired, its head will slam into the ground and it’ll get stuck
Fireball Spit Yian Garuga will spit up a glob of fire from a distance. More dangerous than Yian Kut-Ku’s.
Fireball Charge Yian Garuga will run forward and spit up fireballs to its left and right as it goes.
Tail Whip Yian Garuga will do a double 180 tail swing. If hit, this will damage and poison you, so steer very clear of this attack.
Double Peck Yian Garuga will jump into the air, and as it lands it will drive its beak into the ground. It will do this twice in succession. Due to hitbox dissonance, Yian Garuga’s entire body will deal full damage, so you can get hit hard even if you’re nowhere near the beaks. Be careful!
Back Hop Yian Garuga will hop back to distance itself. If you’re close to where it lands, you’ll flinch from the wind pressure
Sonic Yian Garuga will generate a loud sonic bomb-esque sound with its wings and beak. This will cause you, the hunter, to flinch without Earplugs. If enraged, Yian Garuga loves to chain this with the following attack
Charging Backflip Yian Garuga will fly forward for a short distance and then backflip immediately afterwards. It loves to combo the Sonic attack with this to hit you while you’re flinched from the loud sound. A cowardly trick if ever there was one!
