Mass Effect 2 Legendary Edition

Best Mordin Builds

By
Matt Chard

This page will show you some of the best builds for your squad mate Mordin Solus in Mass Effect 2. Here, you’ll find details on the best abilities to pick, and the best weapons to equip.

Mordin Solus Overview

Mordin Solus is an incredible individual, being a Salarian geneticist, professor, and a former operative of the Special Tasks Group (Salarian Spectre). He was also one of the main people responsible for the Krogan genophage. Although he dislikes taking life without a good cause, his moral compass sits at believing the ends will justify the means. Most of his decisions are defined by logic, and he doesn’t let his conscience get in the way of that.

When do you get Mordin

Mordin becomes available after the Prologue after completing the Mission Dossier: The Professor.

Incineration Blast Build

This build revolves around maxing out Mordin’s Incinerate as quickly as possible, so you can take the final evolution Incineration Blast. We then max out the Cryo Blast skill line to take advantage of its extremely quick cooldown, and it’s crowd control properties. Finally, we max out his Salarian Scientist to get those Health and Weapon Damage passives. Neural Shock is decent against synthetics, but Cryo Blast is taken due to its quicker cooldowns, with a similar outcome.

Power Evolution Squad Points
Incinerate Incineration Blast 10
Cryo Blast Full Cryo Blast 10
Neural Shock
Salarian Scientist Salarian Savant 10

Powers

This section will go into more detail on why the Powers are chosen for this particular build.

Incinerate

Incinerate is a projectile fired from the Omni-Tool that deals burning damage over time, which makes it great against armored enemies as well as enemies without any protection at all. The Incineration Blast evolution turns an already strong Power into an Area Of Effect behemoth. With Mordin’s Omni-Tool upgrade he can get from the research station makes him capable of decimating entire squads of enemies in one cast, especially in the early stages of the game.

Cryo Blast

Cryo Blast is a great crowd control Power that can freeze enemies, slowing them down. What makes Cryo Blast Blast great is its 4.50 second recharge time, making it the fastest Power in the game. We take the Full Cryo Blast evolution to give it a larger radius, so it can effect more enemies. The only downside to Cryo Blast is, it needs the enemies’ protection stripped before it’s useful.

Salarian Scientist

Salarian Scientist is Mordin’s passive skill line which’ll increase his Health, and Weapon Damage, we take the Salarian Savant evolution for the extra Weapon Damage.

Neural Shock

You could take Neural Shock over Cryo Blast and you wouldn’t notice much difference between the two. It works great against synthetics, stunning them when it connects, the only negative compared to Cryo Blast is that the latter is half the recharge time of it.

Best Weapons

This section will talk about what weapons are best for this particular build.

Heavy Pistol

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-5 Phalanx 109 High High Semi-Automatic 80 RPM 6

The M-5 Phalanx was originally added as DLC in the original Mass Effect 2, in the Legendary Edition, it can be purchased from Ratch, who resides on Tuchanka.

What makes the M-5 Phalanx so effective, is that it’s highly accurate due to its built in laser, and it hits like a truck with 109 base damage. Like most handguns, it’s better to use against enemies with armor, or as a weapon to fall back on if you run out of ammo in your primary.

Submachine Gun

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-9 Tempest 14 Moderate High Automatic 925 RPM 50

The M-9 Tempest is available after the Mission Dossier: Tali. What makes this weapon so great, is its high rate of fire making it easier to tear the shields of your enemies, allowing your Biotics Powers to influence the battlefield.

or

Weapon Base Damage Accuracy Recoil Fire Mode Fire Rate Clip Size
M-12 Locust 25 High Low Automatic 550 RPM 20

The M-12 Locust was originally added with the Kasumi - Stolen Memory DLC which is Kasumi’s loyalty mission, in the legendary edition, the mission is available once you acquire Kasumi at the Citadel. The weapon can be picked up during the mission, or if you miss it, as a mission reward.

The Locust is one of the strongest SMG in the game, especially at mid to long range due to its pinpoint accuracy, and low recoil. This makes it act more like an Assault Rifle than a SMG.
