The Suicide Mission is probably the biggest part of the entie Mass Effect Trilogy, and all the characters can die during it. This page will show you the consequences of their death, and what impact it has in Mass Effect 3. There are also four squad members who can die or not be present before the Suicide Mission, these are Grunt, Legion, Samara, and Zaeed.

Garrus Vakarian

Garrus survives

When Garrus survives the Suicide Mission, you can meet up with him again at Menae in Mass Effect 3, and he’ll join you as a squad member

Garus dies

If Garrus dies during the Suicide Mission, he won’t be available in Mass Effect 3, and you won’t get a different squad member to replace him, effectively leaving you with one less member.

Grunt

Grunt survives

If Grunt survives the Suicide Mission, he’ll be present during the Mission: Attican Traverse, which is a Krogan Team Mission. He’ll also be playable in the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3.

Grunt dies

If you never awaken Grunt on the Normandy, or he dies during the Suicide Mission, he won’t be present in Mass Effect 3, and his role in the story will be taken over by Urdnot Dagg.

Jack

Jack Survives

If Jack survives the Suicide Mission, you’ll see her during Grissom Academy: Emergency Evacuation as a teacher, training Biotics, and she’ll protect the students when Cerberus attempt to kidnap them. You’ll also be able to talk to her at the Purgatory Bar on the Citadel following that event. If you don’t help her at the Grisson Academy, she’ll appear as a special enemy called Phantom when you raid the Cerberus HQ. She’ll also be playable in the Citadel DLC.

Jack dies

If Jack dies during the Suicide Mission, your Romance with her will end, and she’ll make no appearance in Mass Effect 3. Her role will be carried out by a student, Jason Prangley during the Grissom Academy Mission.

Jacob Taylor

Jacob Survives

If Jacob survives the Suicide Mission, he’ll make an appearance during the Mission: Arrae: Ex-Cerberus Scientists, and be part of their elite team. He’ll also be in a relationship with Dr. Brynn Cole, even if you romanced him, you can talk to him about this during the Citadel DLC, and he’ll also be playable in it.

Jacob dies

If Jacob dies during the Suicide Mission, any Romance with him will end, and he won’t appear in Mass Effect 3, instead, his role during the Mission: Arrae: Ex-Cerberus Scientists will be covered by Dr. Webber, who only appears during that mission.

Kasumi Goto

Kasumi Survives

If Kasumi survives during the Suicide Mission, you’ll see her during the Citadel DLC Mission: Hanar Diplomat in Mass Effect 3. If you completed her loyalty mission, she’ll support you in the war effort. Also, she will appear in multiple scenes during the game, where she uncloaks herself briefly, then cloaks herself again. She’ll also be a playable squad member in the Citadel DLC.

Kasumi dies

If Kasumi dies during the Suicide Mission, she won’t be there for the Citadel DLC Mission: Hanar Diplomat in Mass Effect 3, this will leave you with a difficult choice to make at the end of it which Kasumi would’ve solved for you.

Legion

Legion survives

If Legion survives during the Suicide Mission, they can play a big part for a peaceful resolution during the Quarian/Geth storyline in Mass Effect 3.

Legion dies

If Legion dies during the Suicide Mission, or you sell them to Cerberus at the beginning of Mass Effect 2, they won’t make an appearance in Mass Effect 3, this means that a peaceful resolution during the Quarian/Geth storyline won’t happen. They will also appear as an enemy on the attack at Cronos Station during the Mission: Priority: Cerberus Headquarters.

Mordin Solus

Mordin survives

If Mordin survives during the Suicide Mission, he’ll make an appearance during the Krogan storyline, and your choice from keeping or destroying Maelon’s data will play a big part in that.

Mordin dies

If Mordin dies during the Suicide Mission, his role will be taken by Padok Wiks in Mass Effect 3 during the Krogan storyline.

Morinth

Morinth survives

If Morinth survives during the Suicide Mission, you’ll receive an e-mail from her early in Mass Effect 3, she’ll explain her reason for leaving. Throughout the Mission: Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi, you’ll find several e-mails from her trying to contact her sisters. Eventually you’ll have to fight, and kill her as a Banshee enemy during the final mission.

Morinth dies

If Morinth dies during the Suicide Mission, she won’t appear in Mass Effect 3 whatsoever.

Miranda Lawson

Miranda survives

If Miranda survives during the Suicide Mission, she’ll have her own sub-plot in Mass Effect 3, she’ll be tracking down her sister, Oriana, whilst being on the run from the Illusive Man. She’ll also be available as a squad member in the Citadel DLC.

Miranda dies

If Miranda dies during the Suicide Mission, only the ending of her sub-plot in Mass Effect 3 will remain, and it will carry on without her, as it’s integral to the main story of Mass Effect 3. Furthermore, you’re Romance with her will end.

Samara

Samara survives

If Samara survives during the Suicide Mission, she will play a big part in the Mission: Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi Monastery. You’ll also be able to speak with her in the Citadel. She’ll also be playable in the Citadel DLC.

Samara dies

If Samara dies during the Suicide Mission, or at the end of her loyalty mission, your Romance with her will end, and she won’t be present in Mass Effect 3.

Tali’Zorah vas Neema

Tali survives

If Tali survives during the Suicide Mission, like Legion, she’ll play a big part in the Quarian/Geth storyline resolving in a peaceful resolution, she’ll also rejoin your squad for Mass Effect 3. Your Romance with her will carry through, and she’ll leave a present on your bed at the end of it.

Tali dies

If Tali dies during the Suicide Mission, her role in the Quarian/Geth storyline will be taken by “Auntie” Shala’Raan, a parental figure of Tali’s, and it’ll be impossible to get a peaceful resolution with it. Also, Your Romance will end.

Thane Krios

Thane survives

If Thane survives during the Suicide Mission, he’ll reside in Huerta Memorial Hospital on the Citadel due to his illness under the name Tannor Nuara. He’ll also play a major part mid-way through the story, after the genophage cure section, and during Cerberus’ attack on the Citadel. You can also continue your Romance with him.

Thane dies

If Thane dies during the Suicide Mission, he won’t be present in Mass Effect 3, and his major role in the story will either be replaced with Captain Kirrahe, providing he survived Virmire, or it will be left vacant.

Zaaed Massani

Zaeed survives

If Zaeed survives during the Suicide Mission, he’ll be a part of the Mission: Citadel: Volus Ambassador, and if he was loyal, you can get two War Assets from him via a morality choice, if he wasn’t loyal, he’ll die saving Korlack in the fight against the Collectors. After the Mission, he can be recruited as a War Asset. He’ll also be a playable squad member in the Citadel DLC.

Zaeed dies

If Zaeed dies during the Suicide Mission, or during his loyalty mission, his role will be replaced by Krogan mercenary. Also, you’ll only be able to get one War Asset.
